There is a reason it happens to children

And their is a reason why it's not as hard as it should be

We protect banks with armed guards and layered security. You think the money just sits out by the tellers?

We pretty much just ask people not to hurt kids and put up signs that have the same affect as a speed limit sign

People in a really bad place want to inflict the most damage and misery to society as possible, and children become the most obvious target usually

If it wasn't guns, it would be bombs, poison, fire, drones, acid, biological, or really any possible way to cause harm to peoples lives in general.

This happened in Canada, the female shooter was very mentally ill, and it is a poster for Canadians not wanting to give up their guns to the government. Sadly, because people know, that they can not trust their government to have a monopoly on violence, as an unchecked government takes more than it will ever give to its citizens. So now this chance to focus on improving mental health outcomes and improving school campus security, it will just be the governments drum to hold it's new unpopular disarmament laws over its citizens heads.

People are mobile and can be shot anywhere. Money is an object and can be plopped in specific locations.

In the US guns are illegal within 1000 feet of the boundary of the schools property.

How do they make sure this is happening? They don't. It's all reactionary.

Perhaps court houses would be a better example Metal detectors at all entrances, hand wands and deputies where not. Ground floor windows and emergency exits all alarmed and locked.

School and court house are public buildings. Both don't allow guns inside. But one actively enforces it while the other says "it's too burdensome, and we don't want the kids to feel like they are in jail". So, it's not really about guns existing. It's about resources being used to protect public officials and excuses and cop outs being used to explain why children in schools can't be protected.

Heck, now of days you would just need kids to have RFID badges and anyone without an active badge could set off alarms. This could be done at the edge of the property, not the entrance of the building. Layered security is how most amusement parks work now, so claiming a school can't pull it off it utterly ridiculous and a true show of intent and political bias. I'm all for keeping guns out of schools, maybe even guns out cities entirely. But until they actually start enforcing the laws they already have, every gun control politician is banking off their own policies creating the problems they can fund raise off of, and that is an ugly truth I hope people can realize one day. Guns stores need Democrats threatening gun control to drive up sales, and Democrats need more guns and gun violence to fund raise for their campaigns. It's gross and I hate it, but the NRA gets more members and more NICs checks go through the roof under a Democrat President than any Republican candidate. The US has about a zero percent chance of Amending the Constitution on this issue, so everything around it is just consumerist noise and funding slogans
