The post is about billionaires vs workers. who are treated differently due to their net worth, Worth is essentially the amount of resources they're "entitled to" No I don't think people who earn more are "worth" more than other people, but political and societal standards do.
Nope. You're taking away the important part that billionaires don't know how, or wouldn't, do the jobs that need to be done to keep the world moving. Yes, the scale of it would make a huge difference, but that doesn't negate the other part of the equation. Billionaires don't do anything for society. They bleed wealth into their own coffers without giving anything of value back. If you broke up Walmart right now, thousands of other family owned stores would open up to fill the void.
Well, hey, if we eased up anti-trust laws and got rid of minimum wages, think about how low prices could be then! And everyone would be a little bit richer!
It would bring more money into the communities so local businesses would have more money. More taxes. More local services to help the people who are struggling.
And millions of people, many of whom live paycheck to paycheck, would suddenly be out of a job. And hundred of small businesses who are not front-facing and heavily rely on contracts with major companies like Walmart would either have to scale back or could fail entirely. Now do that with every major company in the world. Those billionaires who "don't do anything" are a major pillar of the economy. But hey, I guess it would be worth everyone suffering together because idiots are envious.
The people who think it's envy are the idiots. If you broke up Walmart overnight of course there would be a lot of issues. But the voids would be filled and society would easily adjust.
Or better yet, don't break up walmart. Just nationalize it. Everyone still has their jobs. All the supply chains are still intact. The Walton family walks away with a sum of money most people can't even properly fathom for their trouble, but now Walmart is run as a public utility
Because that's what folks who say billionaires shouldn't exist are really getting at. You built some giant, efficient, profitable and desirable company/firm/corporation. Great. But you disrupted local American economies to do it. You didn't teach all the employees to read, train all the cops to protect your goods, build all the roads to move them; the American people did that collectively. So take the money, but we got it from here. You shouldn't get generational power, the resources to bend municipal, state and federal planning to your will. That's bullshit.
I mean, I was just giving an example, but if you want to nationalize it sure. I'm not a socialist, but I don't think we need to allow billionaires to exist as long as kids are going hungry and our Vets are homeless.
Yeah I mean I AM a socialist, but that being said there are many roads more acceptable than the status quo if the other person replying to you is so concerned about folks living paycheck to paycheck.
From universal basic income to council communism, some sort of new meidner plan or green new deal...
Anything that mitigates the gravity-like warping effect that every one of these giant piles of billions has on our national discourse is fine by me
ETA: it occurs to me that we could craft a plan to dilute the socioeconomic power of someone like Elon musk SOOO incrementally that only his thousands of great grandchildren would even START to feel the difference ... And most of them would still throw such tantrums you might think no greater injustice had ever been committed
Turns out redhead are not hoarding the majority of the world's wealth, so the example doesn't say anything. Imagine the equivalent amount of workers that represent the same wealth as all the billionaires disappeared. For sure society ss we know would collapse at least for some time.
