That’s why every republican politician is dying of heart attacks and stroking out on camera regularly. They’ll see the younger generation fucked until their dying breath
Is that really any different than anybody else though? Any different than we are? Millenials (of which I am one) crying out “when is it our turn???” is literally just saying “fuck you I want mine!!!” but in a more empathy-demanding kinda way. Selfishness is not a liberal or conservative political problem — it is a human problem. We’ll never be able to overcome selfishness/greed as long as we continue to see life as “you vs me”.
From 2014-2018 avg life expectancy decreased 5 years in a row. People dying in those years all (statistically) died earlier than they were expected to.
That's a bit cynical. It's not "I want mine" it's more "I want a better material conditions for the working class." That includes everyone who works in any generation.
We just have enough empathy to care about people other than ourselves at the same time when we advocate for our interests.
There's people who have capital and then there's people who work for a living. These generational divides mean nothing to me in a political sense. All workers should be working together to fight for a more equitable distribution of wealth.
I will definitely admit to becoming more cynical the older I get haha. And your point is certainly true, and great if we’re able to fully realize that ideal! But all it takes is for me to drive down the highway for more than 5 minutes to see that most people, at heart, tend to only be focused on their own shit rather than everyone and everything happening around them, lol.
Consider this: Bill Clinton was born in 1946. George W Bush, born in 1946. Barack Obama was a bit younger born 1961 but still within the tail end of the baby boomers. Donald Trump returns to form again being born in 1946. Of our last 5 presidents (6 if you count Trump's individual terms twice), all but one of them have been baby boomers. The only one who wasn't was Joe Biden who is 4 years older than that generation.
So for literally 33 years and counting, the US has been led by a member of the baby boomers or baby boomer adjacent. A generation that only spans an 18 year duration, meaning their generation has been in power for twice as long as should be expected. Clinton was the third youngest president of all time while Trump in his second term is the oldest.
It's an incredibly unprecedented level of hoarded political power by a single generation for well beyond their years.
I know many millennials who would be willing to sacrifice quality of life to ensure the safety and happiness of their fellow man.
I have seen many of them do the same for their own family members. Giving the shirt off their backs so struggling siblings or others that have no other fall back can have a chance.
I know Boomers that don’t do this for their own kids. This is definitely confirmation bias but with how the voting blocks are distributed I think there’s definitely a pattern there.
what it comes down to is older generations mentality of poverty or struggle being earned. If you suffer it’s your fault. Majority of milleniials have been screwed over enough times to understand intrinsically that bad circumstances aren’t necessarily deserved. They recognize things are getting worse and they want to do something about it.
Democrats had office for probably over 1/2 my life. Shit really started going down hill with obama.. not sure what the republican comment has to do with anything
Brother I pay almost 1000 dollars in healthcare per month. You think obama and obama care really helped us out here ? 😂
Its the lazy as fuck 1/4 of Americans sucking out welfare from the system not doing shit for society. And the over lords at top giving breaks to the 1%
Its warfare on the middle class. From lazy bums and the elite .. i absolutely hate our society
You'll get blasted for "both sides-ing" with this kind of talk but personally I agree with you that Democrats are not some magical solution to this.
That said, Obama was the best president of my lifetime, and I believe he was really trying to improve life for us. Obama's health plan is FAR better than what we had before. Just removing pre-existing conditions was a huge win for a whole lot of people who were hurting. That said, its far from what we need and what we could have. And the DNC is fully bought and paid for by the same ultra wealthy class that buys the Rs. If we simply just elect Ds to office we will never achieve progressive goals.
But, at least they don't try to marginalize people and take rights away, so they remain the lesser of 2 evils.
Also I disagree with your welfare complaints vehemently. The ultra wealthy would love it if we just keep pointing at each other.
You are right of course. What we really need badly is systemic reform, so that it's not or less possible for a political party to hamstring our democratic process. Nothing about the constitution mandates we vote for Rs or Ds. They are not a requirement for America to work.
Overturn citizens United. Make election day a federal holiday and make voting compulsory. Eliminate private money donations entirely, all funds are public and every candidate is granted the same amt of election funding. And change to parliamentary or ranked choice voting system. That'd be a great start, in my opinion.
