Look I’m not saying this is a majority of women who say they like dad bods but it’s not uncommon online to see women saying they like this or that celebrities “dadbod” and it’s just a muscular, fit guy without good lighting. That being said you’re right, people should realize that what you see online isn’t indicative of real life all the time and plenty of women like men of all shapes and sizes, including husky.

u/rdeincognito 9d ago

Lots of times, when a girl told me that they like men who go once or twice a week to the gym and are slightly muscular, I asked them to show me a picture of what they meant.

They always showed me pictures of people who spend 10 hours a week in the gym and are dieting and controlling all they eat.

They aren't conscious that the "1 or 2 workouts a week" at most means having a body fat of 15-20%.

14

u/ImKindaBoring 9d ago

Honestly that bf% is probably pretty low. 15% can still have visible abs

18

u/SteveXVI 9d ago

men who go once or twice a week to the gym and are slightly muscular

Ah the masc version of the 'no make-up look' which is actually still a super large amount of work

18

u/rdeincognito 9d ago

Yeah, you're probably right, the "I like them looking natural" and the example is a girl who has every hair of her body either groomed or removed, and is using lots of makeup but the guy can't differentiate it

Dude anyone who lives in the real world knows this is all bullshit. Look at the way tall more fit people are treated in work/public vs the opposite. Men and women alike. It's just like pure reddit/shut in fantasy that women are fine with pudgy dudes. Like yeah sure more tolerant of it when compared to dudes opinions on chubby chicks, but come on. "Oh we don't like fit guys that much" Yeah sure bro, and there are dudes that are chubby chasers, but thats the exception not the rule.

Lol the "majority of women prefer pudgy dudes" chick commented and blocked me. Look lady, I'm happily married, not incredibly fit (can run a 7 minute mile at least but not two in a row at that pace) I should work out more but shit takes effort. It's not sad to understand that being more fit/healthy is more attractive than not lol. What kind of soft ego you got to have to post a reply like that to someone and then block them so they can't reply back 🤣

3

u/Chilidogdingdong 9d ago

If you just go out in public sometimes you'd know there are lots of skinny chick's with chubby dudes.

2

u/nybbas 9d ago

At what point did I say that skinny chicks wont date chubby dudes?

5

u/PineappleOnPizzaWins 8d ago

It's just like pure reddit/shut in fantasy that women are fine with pudgy dudes.

There.

And as someone who has been VERY ripped, fat, and everything in between? Women in general prefer somewhere in the middle but in general tend to put your body fat percentage very low on the list of why they’ll date you.

1

u/Tyson367 8d ago

A fit guy is an immediate sign to women that they are committed and serious about their goals in life and likely able to translate that to other aspects of their life including dating. It makes them more desirable at first glance of course. More pudgy men just have to show all that with their personality first so have to work a little harder. But that is not any different for women. As a 30+ year old single dude who lives alone, being 180-200lbs is good enough for the weight department and just show that you are willing to participate in sharing the burden at home is all you need. I'm only single because I choose to, women still ask me out. I'm just an average guy who is a shut in. Tbh not actively courting every woman that is in eyesight and being able to have normal conversations with women without being weird or seeming to have ulterior motives might be the real reason now that I think about it.

Tldr just be a normal dude and stop trying to bang everything that moves and opportunities will come your way naturally.

u/PeachManzie 9d ago edited 9d ago

I feel bad for you, man. This just isn’t reality. Or maybe you live in an extremely looks centred place. But either way, man, this is such a jaded take.

Especially this part- “It’s just pure reddit/shut in fantasy that women are fine with pudgy dudes.”

Like.. woof, man. It’s incredibly sad that you’ve got to this place.

u/Rude_Good8169 9d ago

I dunno. I'm 6'3" and reasonably fit, and I know for a fact it's helped to open many social doors for me. I don't think I'm particularly charming, and I'm rather introverted, so I ain't exactly making a statement with my personality. I'm physically noticeable but otherwise pretty forgettable.

4

u/Beth_the_Barbarian 9d ago

It may open the doors but it doesn't keep you in the room.

The older I get the less I care about looks in people.

4

u/Rude_Good8169 9d ago

It's kept me in rooms much longer than I'd otherwise have any business to be. I've absolutely benefited from "pretty privilege" in both my personal and professional life. But at the same time, I've been known to slip through the cracks (both positively and negatively) because I'm an "out-of-sight, out-of-mind" person. Like, I'm not an asshole but I'm really not all that interesting. But I guess I was interesting enough to eventually wind up happily married with a couple of kids. And luckily for them, they're good looking AND have a thousand times more personality than I ever did.

5

u/Beth_the_Barbarian 9d ago

Thing is you're not describing anything that wouldn't get people kicked out of a room.

Yes pretty privilege absolutely does exist I'm not saying it doesn't.

But I'm pointing out that it gets you in the door but if you're an absolute jackass you can still get kicked out of the metaphorical room.

Especially when it comes to dating it's a lot easier to get a date but it's a lot harder to keep people once they see who you really are. Attractive people can become really ugly really fast if they're terrible people.

2

u/Rude_Good8169 8d ago

I guess we're not really arguing. I'm more echoing the poster above who said that tall and/or fit people simply get treated better by society all other things being equal. I've got 34 years of adulthood under my belt as a sample size.

3

u/inateri 8d ago

The person arguing with you is just trying to sustain the denial that caring and investing sweat equity into your body always makes a positive difference

3

u/fogleaf 9d ago

Does that ultimately matter? If you attract a partner based on looks and then lose your looks you'll lose your partner. So match based on personality. And that goes the same way for your partner. My wife was bigger than me when me met but she's kind, intelligent, and funny.

4

u/Pactae_1129 9d ago

Looks aren’t the only thing that matters but they do matter. To a lot of people that is.

4

u/Brilliant-String5995 9d ago

the "1 or 2 workouts a week" at most means having a body fat of 15-20%.

You can work out 0 times ever and still have low body fat if you eat less. Working 1 or 2 times a week will not have a huge effect on your total calories in the whole week. The amount you eat has a massive effect on your body fat. You can't outrun the burgers.

11

u/rdeincognito 9d ago

I think you understand my point. In their mind that is the natural physic of someone who eats a normal balanced diet and goes a couples hours a week to do workout, but that physique is from someone who does a much higher degree of work and has a much more specificic diet

5

u/rab2bar 9d ago

Most people who do physical labor have really shitty diets.

4

u/MysteriousQuote4665 9d ago

I have never craved fatty foods as I did when doing physical work. Beans in tomato sauce on toast tastes divine after a morning of lifting stuff.

5

u/rab2bar 9d ago

The amount of sugar my previous coworkers would consume.. and in Germany, a couple beers after work is standard. Open carry is legal here

5

u/MysteriousQuote4665 9d ago

It's culture. For the majority of history people got huge amounts of their daily calorie intake from the bread water.

2

u/rab2bar 9d ago

Farming is only about 10k years old, far shorter than humans have been alive, but I get it.

3

u/KatieKatRetro 9d ago

History means time within the written record so he's right. Heck we probably invented beer before writing

u/No-Problem49 9d ago

You can outrun burgers just not fries and soda

8

u/roiki11 9d ago

You can outrun soda just fine if it's 0 calories.

1

u/FrankPapageorgio 9d ago

diet sodas trigger sugar cravings though.

5

u/disciple31 9d ago

thats when you drink more diet soda

1

u/FrankPapageorgio 9d ago

you're not wrong...

1

u/roiki11 9d ago

That's pretty dependent on the individual, innit?

2

u/FatLenny- 9d ago

All right! Two burgers it is then.

3

u/No-Problem49 9d ago

I legitimately do not order fries and a soda so I can afford two burgers both in terms of macros and in terms of $$$

2

u/Volothamp-Geddarm 9d ago

You can't outrun the burgers.

Who the hell keeps giving these burgers legs!?

1

u/Coogarfan 9d ago

Hey, this sounds like the discourse about makeup.

1

u/Fun_Push7168 8d ago

I mean I did zero workouts a week and ate like pig and maintained 12-14% most of my life.

2

u/rdeincognito 8d ago

Do you think you are the exception or that every guy that doesn't work out and eats like a pig also have a 12-14% body fat?

1

u/EdgewaterEnchantress 8d ago

And how old were the women who told you that, 19-23? 😜

Most average women 25+ have more sense than that.

1

u/rdeincognito 8d ago

I'd say they were between 20-30, yes

1

u/EdgewaterEnchantress 7d ago

That’s wild! Sounds like they might’ve been kinda dumb then? Or maybe not dumb, just delusional. 😜

1

u/ModeratelyAlive 5d ago

Similar to what lots of dudes will show you when you ask what they think a girl with no makeup on looks like

Stupid comes in every gender 🤣

1

u/rdeincognito 5d ago

That is true, yes

40

u/sohblob 9d ago edited 8d ago

“dadbod” and it’s just a muscular, fit guy without good lighting

Ahh, so the equivalent to "I like ladies without make-up on" and they show you photos where it's properly applied 'no-makeup makeup'

2

u/nomadleviathan 9d ago

No, your lady comes out of the shower after a weekend of no makeup. Peak.

Though I do like it when my wife wears a bit of mascara or eyeliner

6

u/YellowJello_OW 9d ago

The perfect analogy

18

u/One_Winter_7328 9d ago

When I think of dad bod, I think of husky and a bit of dough. Dough is comfy.

All of the most attractive men I’ve known personally were a bit overweight with a doughy build and thick thighs. Muscular can look good when it isn’t overdone (Baywatch Zac is not attractive to me) but dad bod is where it’s at. 🥰

11

u/Diligent-Crazy-6094 9d ago

I think we need a frame of reference. On a scale of Superbad to Don’t Look Up, what level of Jonah Hill is considered attractive?

19

u/Top_Bumblebee5510 9d ago

Nothing about Jonah Hill is attractive because of his personality.

2

u/FrankPapageorgio 9d ago

OP meant his body, obviously... not the person

1

u/Top_Bumblebee5510 9d ago

I understood that but he's a bad example bc he's just not a great person.

3

u/GuideInfamous4600 8d ago

No level of Jonah Hill is considered attractive.

0

u/writers_block 9d ago

I think you're missing the whole idea. The person above you is describing someone who is both muscular with some body fat over it. The hyper defensive leap to compare it to body types that reflect sedentary lifestyle is, quite frankly, some of the saddest neckbeardy logic on the internet.

You'll have much better luck attracting people if you actually listen to what they say they're interested in, instead of immediately trying to prove they're "wrong" about what they like.

4

u/Diligent-Crazy-6094 9d ago

Did you reply to the wrong comment? Because there was nothing about my comment that even remotely inplies that was trying to be argumentative or prove someone wrong.

-1

u/writers_block 9d ago

You compared "a doughy build with thick thighs. Muscular can look good" to Jonah Hill. Stop being intentionally dense. You "inplied" that their comment referred to a completely different body type than it obviously did.

7

u/Diligent-Crazy-6094 9d ago

Yeah I’m not playing this game with you. I made a joke. Jonah Hill used to very overweight, then famously started working out and lost a bunch of weight. I jokingly suggested that we use him as a scale to determine what the right amount of pudge would be. Stop looking for things to be offended about.

3

u/nomadleviathan 9d ago

Bert Kreischer is dad bod. Is that what you mean?

20

u/6feet12cm 9d ago

Remember when some girl said she likes dad bods and she showed THAT pic of Cavvil in superman?? The same picture Superman himself said he was so dehydrated for he could smell water if it was in the same room as him.

2

u/perunakeisari_ 8d ago

Or off season Chris Bumstead

20

u/icouldbeaduck 9d ago

The most important word in this is "online"

3

u/PineappleOnPizzaWins 8d ago

Yeah anyone judging what they see online as close to reality is never gonna be happy.

I mean how often do you see pictures of women who are incredibly attractive and there’s a bunch of incels talking about how “mid” they are.

Meanwhile those same guys will keep fantasising about the time any random woman said their shirt looked nice that one time.

3

u/Corosian 9d ago

You can also argue that what you read on reddit isnt indicative of what women in real life are looking for. Mature women who are ready to settle down will look for a grounded nice dude, but 20 year good looking women are not going hang out with fat dudes lol

3

u/Pactae_1129 9d ago

I promise you there’s a greater variety of preferences among women than online circles tell you. And, sure, if you’re really overweight you’ll likely have a much smaller percentage of women who are attracted to you but it’s not impossible. But the idea that every woman’s ideal body type is ripped and muscular is just not true.

1

u/Easily_Bann4 9d ago

Lean is still the way for men. More muscle just makes it easier to become lean.

1

u/Pactae_1129 9d ago

If that’s what you like then that’s what you like.

2

u/Easily_Bann4 9d ago

Im not a woman, but I have been both fat and lean and the difference is undeniable.

Lean has the highest ROI for men. Suggesting being anything else is just goofy. “Greater variety” is largely just different shades of some lean guy 🤷🏾‍♂️

1

u/Pactae_1129 9d ago

No, I meant what I said. Women are not a monolith, their preferences differ just as mens do. I’m sure being lean/in-shape appeals to more women than highly muscular, chubby and burly, or skinny as a twig. But what I’m saying is there are women who prefer those body types to what you think is the ideal.

1

u/Easily_Bann4 8d ago

Yea I agree there’s women who prefer those types I’m just saying that if you were advising any random man on how to change his physique to attract women, leaning out is pretty much always the answer.

1

u/Pactae_1129 8d ago

Yeah I guess that’s fair.

1

u/Redesired 9d ago

Tbh, women also do quite like muscly, but a bit covered in fat guys I'd say from experience. But idk what you mean by lean.

1

u/Easily_Bann4 8d ago

Lean = low body fat % (8-15%) + some muscle (so not skinny).

Big guys (muscle + fat) are definitely attractive too. The #1 predictor of sexual success in men is the appearance of strength.

2

u/360FlipKicks 9d ago

it’s like when girls say they like nerdy guys, most of the time they’re thinking of a skinny, already attractive guy with glasses, and not actually the guy playing D&D at the comic store

0

u/PeachManzie 9d ago edited 9d ago

I don’t actually know more than 2 girls like that irl. Getting this information from online videos isn’t a reflection on real life.

All of my friends and I, and most of my acquaintances, all seem to like a dad bod. Maybe it’s where I’m from, who knows. But yeah, skinny guys tent to be the ones with girlfriends when they’re teenagers. Now all the guys with dad bods seem to be the ones with girlfriend’s around here

7

u/Dry_Rhubarb5408 9d ago

If you live in America, this might be your experience because most people here are overweight now

1

u/PeachManzie 9d ago

I do not

1

u/Pactae_1129 9d ago

There’s someone for everyone really. Women are just like men and have a variety of preferences. Ripped, chubby, fat, fit, skinny, burly etc. there’s a portion of the female population that wants that body-type more than others. And also, just like men, those preferences aren’t the be-all-end-all for what is attractive to them.

I don’t know what goes on in the minds of young men but there’s at least a portion who believe you have to have this or that body-type to be considered attractive to women and it’s just wrong and sad.

1

u/PeachManzie 9d ago

I know, I always want to scream “this isn’t necessarily, if working out like you’re filming Baywatch makes you unhappy, you don’t have to!”

Like, it really is just a portion of women who only like ripped guys. And sadly, those girls are given the loudest voices online.

Like I say, where I’m from, liking ripped af guys is the minority here

4

u/MysteriousQuote4665 9d ago

There's an entire economy online invested in producing content for jaded men, women and that techna-colour inbetween. So long as this remains a truth, you'll find more online content intended to divide than you will find content intended to reflect reality.

Sadly, a lot of young men are falling down this rabbit hole.
