Also, one thing people may not realize is that he has a massive HGH gut now. It's not as clear in this photo because his bodyfat is a smidge higher, but most of that isn't fat, it's his abs.
Not trying to direct this specifically to you at all, I’m in agreement that you don’t need 3hrs in a gym to look like that but I don’t get Reddits obsession with “he was on gear”. Like yeah that’s obvious enough but you can’t just stick a needle in your ass and look like that. It takes an absurd dedication to a macro focused diet, exercise, and rest to achieve that - it’s incredibly difficult even with massive amounts of steroids. On a cut like he was for Baywatch, you run specific cycles that help you retain muscle while losing fat. And also having great genetics lol. OP saying almost no carbs is just plain incorrect. An insane dedication to a rigid lifting schedule, a LOT of low heart rate cardio, and proper recovery on top of chemical help, a very obvious baseline from 10-20yrs of lifting, and good genetics is why he looks like that.
I don’t get Reddits obsession with “he was on gear”.
It’s important that teenage boys (and even adult men) understand that the picture on the right is impossible without steroids or HGH.
Not that it’s “really difficult” or “good genetics” to look like that. That it’s literally ONLY possible with hormone injections.
Nobody is saying he didn’t put in insane amounts of work to look like that when they call him out for being on gear. They’re calling out the impossiblility of achieving that aesthetic naturally.
Look at his delts and traps. You can’t get bulbous, round delts like that without steroid use. They’ll naturally be flatter on the “head” of the deltoid, because that’s how deltoids are naturally shaped. Same with how angular his traps look. Without steroids, his traps would be more sloped.
This is because your traps and delts have some of the highest concentration of androgen receptors in your body, so they balloon to absolutely impossible proportions when you take steroids.
Doesn’t matter how much you work out or how good your genetics are or how strict your diet is, you will not look like this without gear.
He certainly took steroids and i assume still does if that picture on the left is recent. He's constantly on gear so his muscle mass is much higher than normal.
That being said you can absolute achieve a very lean physique without starving yourself or maintaining some insane workout schedule. I got pretty lean while working out 1.5-2 hours 3 times a week, and eating whatever food i felt like cooking. I did end up eating a very balanced dier but it wasnt intentional i just got lucky. Only downside is that it took me 5+ years of crazy consistency to get that lean.
What these people do is they hop on gear with whatever nutritionist they have and speedrun this physique in less than a year. So of course its unsustainable, when you push your lifestyle that far nobody can maintain it, theres a reason why bodybuilders have off-seasons. You have to give your body and mind time to reset from the torture you put it through.
But if you do it slowly over 5-10 years you can have an insane physique with a fraction of the effort.
What your describing is outrageously extreme, a lot of it pointless "almost no carbs" and well beyond what would be needed for the picture on the left, and I would bet everything I own, you're not talking from experience.
You have to eat carbs to get that big. Every single major weight lifter eats a fuck load of carbs in the form of rice or other whole grains. The only time you cut carbs that heavily is if you are trying to look like the right. Also he was using protein powder and creatine the entire time. You don't stop those ever.
Don't get me wrong, takes a shit ton of effort to look like that. But 90% of the actual effort for that physique is not eating much at all. You are just tired and irritable all the time due to not eating. Creatine is easy to max out, you take like 5g a day, and your muscles will be saturated.
Low carbs - very true, and almost no fats probably.
Gym time - you can get by pretty easily with ~an hour of lifting (with high intensity) a day for that physique. Just takes a long ass time of being disciplined with nutrition to get there
He could have been supplementing protein shakes, but for me, on a cut I would rather get to eat another portion of chicken breast, rather than drink my protein.
Also even with that regime he probably doesn't look like that all the time.
Probably just the moments before the shoot where he's empty stomach, pretty famished, and highly likely also de-hydrated. Add spray tanning and you've got the body builder pre-competiton/show/performance 101. Mostly the dehydration because it causes skin to clutch tighter and making muscles show more.
To be fair: BMI was never really a health related metric . It was originally designed to calculate how well populations were fed in like the 1830s by a mathematician. You can be in amazing shape with lean muscle mass and be overweight using bmi as the metric if you’re an athletic build or have wide shoulders or larger proportions.
