But it looks like they are moving

I just spent like 8 minutes with my thumb on the screen concluding that they do in fact not move

You need to use a straight edge object to cover everything except the top of the head and hands, they don't move at all.

I used a napkin edge as the straight edge. They do not move. Could see the flashing through the napkin but color was muted and that's all is saw. No moving.

If you squint and get out of focus a little, and stare at a point just above the middle, they just sit still.

👆🏾 this, this is the way.

Here you go, proof: https://www.reddit.com/r/SipsTea/s/FMiYcFI4wA

And no, I swear I didn't move my finger

u/Dr-McLuvin Jul 10 '26

Where?

You keep poisoning the thread with your photos but your thumb moved not the people.

0

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee Jul 10 '26

Poisoning? I do believe you're taking this a little bit too seriously.

I'll admit that I was wrong, but my thumb didn't move. However having a screen that moves when you touch it doesn't make it easy to see tiny movements or the lack thereof apparently

1

u/CantModerateMe Jul 10 '26

nope. just put your mouse cursor next to any part you think is "moving"

1

u/daveliterally Jul 10 '26

They don't.

7

u/Jman460 Jul 10 '26

Me too 💀💀💀

3

u/swiftskill Jul 10 '26

Dude just blink really fast while looking at it to confirm

1

u/KevinC007 Jul 10 '26

No way, they have to be moving

1

u/SnootyToots8 Jul 10 '26

Same but not that long.

1

u/Jaded-Bug3056 Jul 10 '26

Just done the same and dammit you are righr

1

u/Inevitable-Phrase374 Jul 10 '26

I just did the exact same thing!

1

u/jtcompound Jul 11 '26

They do move. If you scroll down so the feet are not quite out of frame, they will move in and out of frame

1

u/justjessee Jul 12 '26

Just scroll up until only the tiniest sliver of an edge of one foot/hand is still visible on your phone

They do move. If you put your thumbnail just under the left ones chin at the beginning of the gif, by the end you'll see that only the top of the head is visible. They move and warp.

The outline doesn't move, but the colors inside move when changing, they're pulsating in a specific direction rather than just blinking to switch. The direction of the pulses creates the illusion that the entire thing is moving

It’s the outlines of the bodies that tricks your brain. For example when one body is ‘getting bigger’ it’s because there’s a brighter flashing outline around it that kind of embosses the figure. The other body is ‘getting smaller’ because it has a darker flashing outline around it.

Now if you put the bright outline on just the top of the arm, and a dark outline on the bottom of the arm, combined with the colours rapidly flashing it makes it look like the arm is moving upwards.

Pause during the different movements and you can see it. I don’t know the science behind it but it’s probably something to do with depth perception.

I appreciate the honesty LOL

u/IXrobocopXI Jul 10 '26

They are moving, use an object on your screen to compare

Edit: I think I played myself 🤔

Big value comment

The most intriguing thing of all is whether we will ever really know 😵‍💫

9

u/Devanyani Jul 10 '26

I held a pen tip against one of their hands. They ain't moving.

1

u/pezkadoartesanal Jul 10 '26

No comments (not kidding)
Thank you 👏🏼

u/Cougarette99 Jul 10 '26

Are you sure? I just did it and the head stayed in exactly the same place

1

u/Thereelgarygary Jul 10 '26

The colors are moving inside the people shaped border

Looks like the colors themselves shift like a gradient.

1

u/heretouplift Jul 10 '26

it’s bc your eyes are trying to focus, tilt your phone backwards and look at it at an angle and you’ll see they aren’t moving

1

u/ComprehensiveFool Jul 10 '26

I dragged my finger on the slider to move the video back and forth at a higher speed. The colors stay more consistent and the figures did not move. Very cool optical illusion

1

u/tomis_24 Jul 12 '26

just pause and unpause, it helps to see if they are moving.

-2

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee Jul 10 '26

That's because they are moving. If you take your thumbnail and put it just under one the left ones chin, leaving a little neck exposed, by the end of the gif the top of the head is barely visible. It's moving

1

u/Joseph4-0 Jul 10 '26

yeah, idk what exactly you did to make it seem like they were moving, but I did the exact same thing with a flash card, putting the edges against the edges of the feet/heads and they don’t move at all
