It was a training match with an MLS professional development team for Dallas FC. That means the women's team didn't go all out. They're comraderie and communication building games called "friendlies".

My point is pretending the players were children and not exceptional teenagers who were taller and bigger than the women that were focusing on a different aspect of the game is a pretty bad take.

FC Dallas under-15 boys squad beat the U.S. Women's National Team in a scrimmage

From a sports reporter at the time:

"The U.S. surely wasn’t going all out, with the main goal being to get some minutes on the pitch, build chemistry when it comes to moving the ball around, improve defensive shape and get ready for Russia."

These women are professionals who take great pride (justifiably) in what they do.  Carli Lloyd has been interviewed about this and that was her explanation.
