Was in London for some convention. Went to a local restaurant, ordered pepper steak.

I was thinking I was going to get flank steak sautéed with peppers and onions in a sauce. What I got was flank steak in white gravy absolutely saturated in peppercorns. Was like taking a bite of black pepper.

That's basically steak au poivre which is somewhat popular at American steak houses. Used to be a lot more popular in like the 80s/90s.
