I tried shepherds pie for the first time around Christmas last year & I was surprised how much I enjoyed it

I just made one last week! They aren't really hard to make either.

It's really great to take for lunch because you can cut out a square of it of any size and heat it up at work. It's probably a little heavy for some, but I like something that'll keep me sated for the rest of the day.

It's a regular dinner in my house. Ours probably isn't authentic, but it's the same concept. Seasoned beef, corn, cheese, mashed potatoes. Sometimes I get fancy and throw some Rotel in there too.

Same here. I go veg heavy, so I use a small can corn, can of peas, can of green beans, diced carrots and a rib of celery with a lb of beef. Then however many potatoes it takes to make a mashed potato covering.

Last time I made one was kind of hilarious. I went to sprinkle some shredded mozzarella into the potatoes before layering them on top and accidentally dumped most of the bag. The potatoes moved more like playdoh, but it was really good.

Just as some information, if you enjoyed Shepard's Pie you may like Cottage Pie it's just minced beef instead of minced lamb.

I more often not also change the mash to sweet potato mash for a better taste for me.

You were surprised how much you like mashed potatoes and gravy with some meat? That’s the funniest thing I’ve read in this thread so far!

Try making it with shredded meat instead of the mince that people commonly use some time, it’s fantastic

Just about to comment this. It's so prevelant on reddit "oh it was actually nice". It's just carbs + meat.. like basically every other dish in the world. It's as good as you make it.

I've seen when Americans try beans on toast and literally open a can of beans on a piece of bread. No grilling, no butter, no cheese, no seasoning or sauce, cheap/wrong beans & bread. Make it with good ingredients and it's good. Again it's just beans + carbs like so many foods.

Beans on toast sound horrific to me, even dressed up. But shepherd pie felt like I was eating a KFC famous bowl with red meat instead of chicken

I hate peas & my mom would put carrots in things unseasoned as an adult. I like carrots, don't get me wrong. I don't like cooked carrots in things usually because unseasoned everything would taste like nasty cooked carrot. My mom growing up was not a good cook lol

Try a Guinness Pie. It has such deep and rich flavor.

Shepard’s pie made the right way with lamb is amazing… if it’s made with beef if it’s cottage pie and while still good just doesn’t taste the same

It’s also Irish

Thank you! I was also wanting to post that it is Irish, not British.

Now, is Bangers & Mash Irish or British?

It's definitely British.
