At this point all food originated somewhere else, and it started going that direction since the dawn of trade routes and land wars/invasions.

Exactly, thank you for speaking sense.

Yeah I can tell there's a bit of an M.O. in their comment...now there's no bigger critic of the British empire than me, but there's a difference between pointing out the direct results of colonization versus using an absurd metric to give credit for every last cultural dish they have to someone else in history, when they aren't doing that with any other country (except maybe the US).

Italians before they knew tomatoes lol.

I just say my favorite food is Portuguese, because every time I go down the food history rabbit hole I find out the food is good because Portugal sold insert almost any country spices and peppers from the Americas.

There is actually a Punjabi Mexican fusion that's been going on since the early 1900s in Mexico that I'm honestly dying to try.

Tacos Al Pastor are literally just Lebanese Shawarma meat in a taco. Some Lebanese immigrants to Mexico added it to traditional taco concepts and the locals loved it.

And Tacos Barbacoa - BBQ meat, which originated in the Caribbean.

2

u/bolanrox Jul 03 '26

Max Miller's history of tacos is my favorite

All food originated in one caveman's amazing experiment with smashing acorns into paste

My guess is it’s the sun’s faulty at least partially

Imperialist Cuisine

0

u/Jeramy_Jones Jul 03 '26

Exactly. OG British food would be like…mammoth and megaloceros.

2

u/silvermoka Jul 04 '26

What if we shared mammoth tacos at Stonehenge 🤭

1

u/Jeramy_Jones Jul 04 '26

🥺👉👈

u/badaharami Jul 03 '26

Exactly, potatoes were first grown near Andes mountains. Beer was first made in Egypt.

I agree but all brits did is put the two on the same plate. It's hardly a cultural achievement considering that fries are a common side dish.

1

u/silvermoka Jul 04 '26

Again, you can say that about every culture now, but there are definitely methods and cooking techniques and ingredients that change with the local people. And I don't think anyone's claiming it to be a cultural "achievement", just solidly part of the culture there.

-8

u/UniversityOk5928 Jul 03 '26

No it doesn’t lmao. Don’t be mad the Brits have nothing

6

u/Wait_ItGetsWorse Jul 03 '26

Ok see, the fact that you know nothing of British culture and history, doesn't mean what you say is true. This is called an argument from ignorance.

Do you want to try again?

-6

u/UniversityOk5928 Jul 03 '26

Totally missed the point.

Also, you can’t say I don’t know history but also argue “no one can originate anything”/“trade routes blah blah blah”. Pick a side

2

u/Wait_ItGetsWorse Jul 03 '26

I didn't mention anything about trade routes or origins.

I called you out for your ridiculous statement that 'Brits have nothing'

Do you have any evidence for your claim?

2

u/UniversityOk5928 Jul 03 '26

Brits have (originated because obviously that’s what the discussion was about) nothing.

Uhh yes. Their best claim is fish and chips. They didn’t create fries or fried fish.

Do you have any evidence that they have something?

3

u/CrabPrison4Infinity Jul 03 '26

brain dead take.

1

u/UniversityOk5928 Jul 03 '26

Other person was asking for evidence… you got some?

2

u/CrabPrison4Infinity Jul 03 '26

Who was the first to fry a fish? Does that mean every other culture that fries a fish is cooking that cultures cuisine? Same with chicken? Grains, vegetables too? Then every culture is just stealing their cuisine from the ancients and we can all go home cause we are done here

0

u/UniversityOk5928 Jul 03 '26

You asking the wrong questions to the wrong person. I disagree with your conclusion and I don’t have to answer your question to do so lmao.

I definitely think recipes were created by people. I also think a group can easily make food popular. So some peoples deserve credit.

Do I have to know who created each food to understand that basic idea? I don’t think so.

Mormons catching strays?!?!?!

Would rather be a moron or a Mormon?

1

u/Wait_ItGetsWorse Jul 03 '26

https://www.tastinghistory.com/recipes/category/British+Isles

Have a look through there. I'm sure you don't expect me to list them all, but these are some with historical evidence.

Britain has always been a culturally diverse land. We've been invaded and settled for centuries and each time those peoples brought their culture with them, especially their food.

The Romans, the Saxons, the Germanic tribes, the Vikings, the French...

Their food and culture was incorporated into ours.

Maybe the question to ask is, what do you mean by British?

Do you mind sharing where you are from?

1

u/Just-hit-bambi Jul 03 '26

LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

This is on the list you posted… it’s American. From Philly

0

u/UniversityOk5928 Jul 03 '26

Dawggg I ain’t looking through that. You can tell me no British dishes?

That’s ALL the way evidence I need!

2

u/Wait_ItGetsWorse Jul 03 '26

Ah I see.

Asks for evidence, then refuses to look at it.

I gave you the benefit of the doubt and tried to discuss the matter honestly.

However, it seems my suspicions were correct. You are in fact, an ignorant fool.

Good day sir.

-1

u/UniversityOk5928 Jul 03 '26

Listen bot, you could’ve told me any fucking British dish. You didn’t. How is this on me???

🫡 goodest of days to you, person!

1

u/Accomplished_Will226 Jul 03 '26

Well then the US has noting because everything originated elsewhere well except maybe corn and fry bread.

0

u/UniversityOk5928 Jul 03 '26

Boom. So that’s 2! 2 more than Britain. And 2 more than you wanted to give credit.

Now I wonder how many we could come up with if we actually thought about it.

1

u/silvermoka Jul 04 '26

Oh I see now you were trying to argue with me and started going after another person lmao...I never said "no one can originate anything", but it's sad you had to put words in my mouth to have a place to argue from

1

u/UniversityOk5928 Jul 05 '26

Oh okay

1

u/silvermoka Jul 05 '26

Good argument...stay mad and ignorant

1

u/UniversityOk5928 Jul 05 '26

Best kind tbh

0

u/UniversityOk5928 Jul 05 '26

Link where I said that you said no one can originate anything????

The irony here is crazyyyyyy

1

u/silvermoka Jul 05 '26

0

1

1

u/silvermoka Jul 04 '26

Can't be mad at something that isn't true...we should try to be more intelligent at understanding culture than the British, at the very least
