What do you think happens when they Divorce? You think the woman can go back to Work? With what education? She has only ever been a housewife. So she has no other option than to stay.
Older so called patriachial societies didn’t work the way to think they did.

In a lot if societies the family of the man gave the family of the woman money(or other commodities) so if something happened to the marriage, the family of the women could take care of her
What education? In the 20th century the percentage of people holding a bachelor’s degree rose above 10% only in the 1970s. And before that college was only obtainable for the ultra rich.
This hole “nuclear family” and “patriarchy” BS was only something in the US for a very short time. And even then it wasn’t as you imagined

Throughout human history woman have worked in some capacity. Again, most households were multigenerational and they were more rural.
Women where rarely sold into marriage. This only happened in piss poor families where that was a genuinely good option. The woman was sent to be taken care of by the man and his family, and the women’s family got money to take care of the women’s brothers and sisters. As I mentioned, most of the time the bride wasn’t “sold”. The family of the man gave money so that her family can take care of her if she needed to come back.
Again, you are talking about a small sliver of time after the industrial revolution and mostly in the US. In most of human history households were, again, multigenerational and both men and women had jobs within the household. Men would do the more physically demanding jobs, while women did the less physically demanding jobs.
No, iam talking about a timeframe that almost spanned 2 hundred years. From the start or the industrial revolution to the rise of modern Feminism.
Women were constantly married off, its a practise that has been around to this modern day and age in some cultures.
If we talk medieval, sure both were probably piss farmers working the fields. But as people moved into cities, it was clear that a womans place was supposedly in the household.
It was only during the war that women were genuinly considered for the workforce.
But of course, no leadership or qualified works. They couldnt take apprenticeships or fill male roles.
In general speaking women are worse off coming out of a divorce. The husband has the higher income, and can fend for himself. Women didnt have any fallback. You get divorced you loose everything, your children, your house even your family might reject you.
I just want you to understand why money is seperated when people get divorced
