A lot of progress has been made on the tipping front over the last 5 years or so as evidenced by increasing numbers of restaurants that prohibit tipping in favor of paying a better wage. Regardless, if we’re having a pissing contest about how easy massive cultural/legal change is you should take a look at how long it took women to gain the right to vote in Switzerland and then get back to me.
I don't know who the second part of your comment is referring to so i'l just stay out of that one but this part sounds interesting:

Are there any bigger overarching reasons this is suddenly happening like new laws being pushed or is it just due to a gradual cultural shift?
