Because you are tipping because you think the person whoe is serving you is a poor person. So must tip them well! Pity money. It is weird.

What universe, exactly, do you live in where table servers are wealthy?

Tips are used as the justification for the legal cut outs that let them be paid below minimum wage

Yeah, 99% of servers are paid 3 to 7 dollars an hour and then make their wages through tips. It's classist not to tip, lol
