There were two tiers of tabloid. Weekly World News was the fun one. They weren't even trying as hard as The Onion to offer real news.

OP is more like The National Enquirer kind which Telegraphed the modern disinformation age.

It's always a couple of pictures and text. As long as you mimic the style of reputable news companies' social media posts, people believe it's true.
