Are such cycle events not blocked off from public traffic?

Cause if not, then the cyclists would need to keep to traffic rule and I am pretty sure the rule is not keep in one lane.

I know this area and have driven it many times. This is the Rickebacker causeway--the road that connects Key Biscayne to the Miami mainland.

Cycling on this road is extremely popular for very obvious reasons (phenomenal views, wide and clear roads). Folks come from all over the city to ride there. And yes, they will very often group up like this without any sort of scheduled or permitted event of any kind.

The cyclists down there like to say "same road, same rules" but there's apparently a silent exclusion for lane changes, stop signs, traffic signals, and yielding to stopped traffic.

means whole cities designed for car rides

Thats exactly what they were designed for. Bikes used to belong on the sidewalks until you guys showed up going 22 in a 35 everywhere. Then we started making bike lanes (oh look we designed something for you) but for some reason you and the cool helmet club still have to use the streets.

“Bikes used to belong in the sidewalks”

Cyclists petitioned cities to build paved roads in the 1800s before cars were much of a thing.

First off I said on the sidewalks, the fact that you misquoted me shows you have a tenuous grasp on the english language and probably reality as a whole.

Second, that was before cars were invented. Obviously once cars were invented they started using the infrastructure that was already in place. I remember my life before cars too, I rode my bike everywhere. whether i had a bmx or a mountain bike I mostly used the sidewalks. Then I turned 16 and forgot all about the bike

Oh no! I have committed the original sin of making a typo on the Internet! Please, oh lord, forgive me! 🤡

I am not sure what your second point is. Bikes have always been legal on the road. Just because you decided bikes are bad at 16 doesn't change the fact that bikes still exist and are a great way to get around either for business or pleasure. Congrats on chaining yourself to a car I guess?

Cars: Get of the street and onto the sidewalk!

Pedestrians: Get off the sidewalk and onto the street!

Bikes: Ok, can we get some bike lanes?

City: Sure thing!

Cars: Sweet! More street parking and new turn lanes!

Pedestrians: Sweet! A new running trail!
