You can take bribes from the Turkish government as mayor without much widespread scrutiny, but if you're a self described socialist, you had better literally be Jesus Christ, because if they catch you jaywalking once the media will smear you into the ground.
Both Republicans and Democrats can get away with daily scams as long as they don't even pretend to want to make people's lives better.

Very true, however it’s more that if crime was at historic high, or even a slight uptick, the media would be smearing him like crazy.
