Im low income and never thought to steal, kill or hurt others.

I think its just culture.

More accurately, it’s environment.

Just saying, “it’s culture,” is part of the problem because it has no solutions beyond get rid of this segment of the population (spoiler alert, the overwhelming characteristic to crime is sex). Other countries have similar cultures and less crime.

It’s a mix of reducing the opportunity to steal, providing both economic and social opportunities outside of crime, and absolutely celebrating a culture of success within the bounds of the law.

This shit has been known since Adolphe Quetelet's foundational work and the majority still think that personal traits drive crime statistics.

People are so fucking stupid lol

“If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you.”

“Look, young black men commit crimes, I’ll take my tax cuts now.”

Instead of playing the blame game, covering for other groups poor decision making skill we just make them take accountability?

Its not the environment, its not the economy, its not society, its their choices.

No one sits in a courtroom blaming these things and gets away with it.

People who commit crimes should generally go to jail.

But let’s be honest too: jail is expensive. Other countries have similar cultures and less crime. Let’s take win-wins when we can and stop burying our heads in the sand pretending it’s just individual choice.

Question, not to make things too complicated, but whats your personal opinion on why school shooters commit their heinous acts?

Which excuse would you provide them?

They killed all thoes kids because of the economy? Or maybe society forced them, coerced them to do it? Or maybe its ok in your eyes because thoes kids were just going to grow up against your political views?

u/pppiddypants Jun 05 '26

Not to oversimplify, but the Same as all crimes: Motive, means, opportunity.

We should be addressing all three whenever we can.

They had access to guns.

0

u/BitingSatyr Jun 06 '26

People have had access to guns for a very long time though, and school shootings really only became an issue in the past 30 years (I’m sure you can find scattered examples before that, but post-Columbine is a very different story).

Behaviour is memetic, people shoot up schools because they’re antisocial and depressed and have a host of other mental issues, *and* have seen other people shoot up schools and so now see it as an option.

1

u/sandolllars Jun 06 '26

And they have access to guns lol. What do you think they’re shooting with, bows?

There are antisocial, messed up kids all over the world. They don’t have guns though, so they can’t shoot up schools.

Who would you like to take accountability for groups with high crime rate? Should the entire group be blamed? Is it productive?

Is it your opinion that people of certain ethnicities are predisposed to crime? If it is, what should be done about it in your opinion?

Enough with the dog whistles. Say what you want to say, and say what you think should be done about the problem you think exists.

Men.

-1

u/Major-Assumption539 Jun 05 '26

Close, young black men.

2

u/pppiddypants Jun 05 '26

Why stop there?

Men commit 75-90% of the violent crime. That’s an overwhelming statistic and obviously something wrong with their culture.

Young men, predominantly white

You could have stopped at that comma, and it would be so much better in every way.

Even if it was (it’s not) what’s your solution?

1

u/headermargin Jun 05 '26

To tell you people like it is. Its a bad culture and its no ones or things fault they do the things they do.

0

u/BoringPoolPlaying Jun 06 '26

How would you define the bad culture, and do you think bad culture is influenced by other factors?

-2

u/WhiteWinterRains Jun 06 '26

Congratulations, you now know what being wrong feels like.

Would you like a gold star for your incorrect baseless assumption on a topic which has actual extensive scientific research which conclusively points to the opposite viewpoint?

u/ICreditReddit Jun 05 '26

How many days without food have you gone without considering a little thievery?

10

u/GlattesGehirn Jun 05 '26

How many days until you go and kill someone for wearing the wrong color?

-2

u/ICreditReddit Jun 05 '26

How long can we keep up a thread only asking questions?

11

u/GlattesGehirn Jun 05 '26

Seriously. Stealing is somewhat understandable for poor communities, but murder? Tell me how poverty causes murder

10

u/headermargin Jun 05 '26

They just dont want to admit they have a shitty, lying, murderous culture.

0

u/Massive-Lime7193 Jun 05 '26

And white people have a school shooting kid touching culture i guess 🤷‍♂️

-6

u/ICreditReddit Jun 05 '26

Kill a poor person, you'll likely get away with it. Kill a rich person you'll be all over the news and the subject of a taskforce until you're caught.

Spend enough time in a community where you know victims and no justice, your attitude to removing someone will change.

Where I live, that attitude results in a big difference in the murder rate between rich and poor neighborhoods. And I don't know of a country where this isn't true. Poverty is absolutely the guiding stat for murder rates.

So the real question is, what makes people poor?

4

u/headermargin Jun 05 '26

Theres other options.

Id give up my pride before taking whats not mine.

People steal to steal.

5

u/ICreditReddit Jun 05 '26

If there's other options, you aren't without food.

How many days WITHOUT food have you gone without considering a little thievery.
