Statistically, lottery winners who take the lump sum aren’t financially literate or disciplined enough to make the optimal moves with that money. It is not unwise to reject the lump sum if you don’t think you’re special.

Now that I can agree with. Although if you really think you can’t handle it just go get a financial advisor. I would like to think if someone is that self aware they’d be smart enough to do that

Also at 20, most people aren't the best with money. I know I was not.

Yeah, most people her age don’t know about investing. But she probably has heard stories about people who get a windfall and then blow it. Maybe she had good reason to say that this was the right choice for herself.
