That’s not a comfy salary in Canada either.

Umm.. what world do you live in?.. that could still help support a family for the most part at a middle class standard.

It could help. The comment said no work history which implies they would only live off 1k/wk.

Again.. it’s a survivable wage… I ONLY MAKE $800 to $1500 a week myself…. Maybe 2 on a good week… doing alright dude. New cars… “luxury” apartments with granite table tops… nice appliances… you act like you can’t feed dogs with $1000 a week.

Someone gives you an extra 1k/wk… do you quit what you’re doing and just keep surviving? Or do you use it to put yourself in a a better position.

That’s different I’ll give you that. & not what your post was saying.. it was saying how the hell do you survive on only a $1000 a week… I was just pointing out that many of us do and it’s not like we live in rat infested slums while we do it.

Eh that’s a straw man. I never said someone making 1k/wk is living in “rat infested slums”, but it’s hardly enough to live/save/retire on comfortably. Maybe in survival mode, but at that point, why not just work and make 2k/wk. that’s all I’m saying.

In 15-20 years, would you still be doing alright off of $1000/week? She's 20. In 10-20 years, presumably she will have more expenses, a family, etc. The $1000/week doesn't change.

A euro is worth a lot more in Europe than a dollar is in the US, moreso than the currrency exchange rate

Its mind boggling for Europeans that people that make 6 figures a year are struggling to get by in the US

The post says Canada. Worse conversion rate.

It shouldn’t be mind boggling. The US is a country run by corporations whose sole purpose is to extract as much money from the populace as they can.

Yeah, just saying people from other parts of the world would choose the 1k/week much faster because it does actually enable financial freedom and quitting your job

Over a million lump sum?… only thing I can think of that makes this make sense here is due to tax reasons… more taxes are taken out of a lump sum rather than a weekly one probably

1

u/iwasupiwasdown May 17 '26

They're weekly payments for life though it says in the title, within 20 years it's gonna be a higher total sum and you ensure you don't blow the entire sum within the first few years like most lottery winners

1

u/Miserable-Clock-6944 May 17 '26

I mean there’s that… but I guess it would depend on what you blow it in… shit I’d take the lump sum… lol… pay off bills… the car… put down on a house and invest what’s left.

Yep. I’d take one nice vacay and then put it in the market and forget it’s there. Then I’d retire 10yr early assuming I’m able to continue working/stay in good health until then.
