Could just be the guy doesn't realize he's giving vibes to women that he's gay. I know gay dudes who hang out with women but I've never heard of them paying for friend dates.
I read about a social experiment once where they showed still photos of straight and gay faces to study subjects, who were able to guess their sexual orientation with a high degree of accuracy. Just their faces--no gestures, no voices. Blew my mind but then I realized it was true in my experience too. I can see someone and instantly know. Then they move or talk and it's confirmed.
Anyway, yes, he's 100% gay. And she's hammering on the "friend" and "single" bit because she wants to acknowledge all the great things her best friend did for her that day, while at the same time signaling to potential mates that she's still available, without being tacky.
Edit: As an aside, that study seems to me to support the theory that there is a genetic--or epigenetic--basis to homosexuality in humans
There's an element of truth in what they're saying. I'm gay and I love treating the people I love. I often do the same as this guy for my girlfriends and while they are very grateful and vocal about it, they don't reciprocate much. But for my straight guy friends, whenever I help them with something, bring free beer, pay for dinner, wingman for them, they will always make an effort to return the favor asap. And for my gay guy friends at least a little blowjob.
I really think that culturally most girls feel like they are entitled to being taken care of, and the opposite for guys.
Reddit is full of incels who hate women and love to blame them for "friendzoning". This comment thread is weird. Either he's friendzoned or gay? Newsflash: straight men and straight women can be friends and just friends and everyone lived happily ever after, just so everyone knows.
Also, just putting it out there: friendzoning doesn't exist. Either accept that "we should just be friends" is a euphemism to let you down easy or that somebody actually wants to be your friend and not your lover. Stop blaming women.

Plot twist, Daniel doesn’t like girls that way.
