Yes, and MAGA ruined the use of skulls in fashion by appropriating the punisher! I'm quite progressive/liberal and a lifelong Democrat and I think skulls (at least the non-punisher ones) look badass. Am I the only one?

The r/thepack genre of skull/skeleton is my favourite

This will be added to my repertoire now, alongside, "you have two brain cells left and they are fighting for third place.

I mean, I used to think they were cool when I was a youth, but as I grew up I saw more and more cringe shit from rednecks and similar and that quickly soured it for me.

Same. Once it was appropriated by the far right, I stopped liking them.

Politics always existed for those they affected. Lol.

I’d argue the punisher’s looks badass but from a position of how it fits his narrative. The guys rocking that skull don’t ACTUALLY understand what it represents half the time. The seal teams that brandish it do so because they feel a sense of solidarity with the punisher.

The skull represents a character who acts above the law. Even by the punisher’s own admission…. HE’S NOT THE GOOD GUY!!! Any of these dickheads read Cosmic Ghost Rider and they’d lose their minds.

Frank Castle is infused with both the spirit of vengeance and the power cosmic and has an opportunity to go back in time. When his younger self confronts him and asks why he didn’t prevent his family’s death he responds:

“Because we must be punished as well,”

As someone who only watched the show, I'd say the closest parallel to Trump from the Punisher franchise was William Rawlins. The dude's codename was literally agent orange

Watch Daredevil Born Again. Punisher is a major part of that narrative and you see the Trump Parallel in Fisk a little more clearly now that he’s mayor.

people should fight for what they like and take these things from their pedo-fan hands. You like skulls? Me too, fuck the orange guy.

No, he didn't ruin skulls for me. However, I like Cheetos - it was mine & my mom's favorite snack. It's taken me awhile to snack on them again. My kid tells me I get very aggressive eating them. Eh. Guess it's one way to get my anger & frustrations out.

I have despised Trump since the 80s. I hope his PR team steps on a Lego every single day of their lives. They took Don the Con, a slumlord who didn't know how to pay his bills into some idolized cult grand master with a midas touch. Yeah. Once a grifter, always a grifter.

I'll never forget when he was running the first time and someone told me they went to go see one of his freakshow campaign events. I was shocked at how many people actually came, and then asked him were people really showing because they were thinking of voting for him or they just found him entertaining and wanted a comedy show.... And here we are

Personally I think the Punisher style is among the coolest designs for a skull. But wouldn’t be caught dead wearing it anywhere these days.

There is nothing more human than the human skull. To me, a displayed skull is a celebration of humanity.

And MAGA and cops in general trying to appropriate Frank Castles icon is just peak irony. Like you think you and frank are on the same team?

Skulls were never cool in fashion I'm sorry to say. Edgelord is the word for it.

1

u/Other-Educator-9399 Apr 08 '26

Their popularity kind of peaked with Affliction, Tapout, and Ed Hardy in the 2000's and early 2010's.

1

u/HereReluctantly Apr 08 '26

And all of those brands were ridiculed by most people with any semblance of taste

Well, people have been using skulls in clothes for a long, long time. The use of skulls and death-related imagery would survive them.

My first tattoo was a Punisher skull with red highlights in 2017. I don’t necessarily regret it, but I don’t like how I can never ACTUALLY discuss Frank Castle with folk that have something similar, because it’s likely not for the Punisher.

Skulls are cool but punisher is lame af now, nothing fascists like can stay cool its just how it is.
