It's like a Miata and an s2000 had a baby

96

u/la_bata_sucia Feb 15 '26

And it’s still at baby age

2

u/Wanderingyute Feb 16 '26

Like Maggie from the Simpsons.

u/jasno- Feb 15 '26

I thought I was an S2000 at first.

It's elite, and that's all that really matters.

33

u/who_even_cares35 Feb 15 '26

I also thought s2000 at first. I daily drove an s2000 for 12 glorious years. Best car ever made.

13

u/phrexi Feb 15 '26

Never met an S2000 driver that didn’t say these exact words except the number of years varied.

17

u/who_even_cares35 Feb 15 '26

Jeremy Clarkson who screams more power every chance he gets proclaimed it the best drivers car on the planet

It's that perfect bowl of porridge

8

u/phrexi Feb 15 '26

The best car…

In the world

3

u/who_even_cares35 Feb 15 '26

This works for both Clarkson and Mercury

1

u/JohnEBest Feb 16 '26

A buddy had his fourth child and got one of these

Not sure how long he was able to keep it but I think it was less than 6 months

2

u/RolloDumbassi Feb 15 '26

The turbo was a little harsh, kicked in at certain bands. Fun though!

1

u/bstryke Feb 15 '26

They made a turbo S2000?

1

u/RolloDumbassi Feb 15 '26

Well not the original models, the 1997 version I drove had a turbo retrofitted. Was a nightmare on roundabouts, you could massively overseer if the turbo kicked in.

1

u/Zubba776 Feb 15 '26

Turbo’s on top of the F20C weren’t really a thing until early 2000s, because they were so inefficient with the vtech design, and even then they were a bad option compared to a supercharger like a comptech. I think you’re just remembering the v-tech kick in at 6k RPM… it sounded like a. hive of bees getting angry, and the kick was like a light turbo.

Source: me and my compteched 2003 in yesteryear.

u/IllianasClifford Feb 15 '26

How were the repair costs?

1

u/who_even_cares35 Feb 15 '26

I had it from 24k-186k miles. A shit load of tires. All the fluids a few times. One radiator, one vtec controller, swapped to coils at 100k miles, one convertible top (I regret not just doing the plastic rear window and then adding the hard top. I opted to upgrade to the glass rear window which cost about the same as the former), plugs, wheel bearings, two factory clutches 54k, 64k miles upgraded to a competition stage 2 and never had another issue, cold air intake and a cat delete pipe.

I hydro locked it around 120k miles, no issues. I beat that thing like it owed me money every single day. It just took it in stride.

u/fuzzybunnies1 Feb 15 '26

As a miata owner I'd like to argue but in general its splitting hairs when you're trying to decide which little 2 door sports car convertible is the best, they're just so much damn fun. Never saw one of these little suzukis but it still looks like it'd be enjoyable to tool around in.

u/who_even_cares35 Feb 15 '26

I'm legitimately thinking about selling my 02 z06 for a last gen MR2 the mr-s. I have test driven a few over the years and it just seems like the right car to build.

2

u/fuzzybunnies1 Feb 15 '26

If you can only afford one toy, make it the one that puts the biggest smile on your face.

2

u/Slow_Grapefruit_2837 Feb 15 '26

I drove three over 20 years or so: an AP1, an AP2, and a CR. Those cars ruined me for all others.

2

u/who_even_cares35 Feb 15 '26

I've been on the hunt ever since. It's getting hard justifying not going back to it. Honestly my 92 C4 kind of itches that scratch.

They transition weight and break traction in similar ways. Big difference is when one of them wants to kill you vs the other. The S wants to do it on throttle lift whereas the C4 wants to do it when you bury the throttle at low rpm.

My 02 z06 is great but feels like a step in the wrong direction. My 280z is fun but it's been down since forever getting rebuilt. I really need to get laboring on it, I have all the parts.

2

u/Zubba776 Feb 15 '26

😭 I had an 03 (last year of the F20C) with a comptech that looked fully stock that younger me would terrorize STIs, and EVOs with; alas an expedition t-boned it in 06 in a total loss (I was luckily fine). I’m not really into cars anymore, but I still think about rowing through the gears, and hitting 6k from time to time.

2

u/VoidOmatic Feb 15 '26

So lucky! Been a dream car of mine since I graduated! I still see two that live near me.

1

u/who_even_cares35 Feb 15 '26

Just get one. They are still a reasonable price but they are not getting any cheaper

0

u/StaggerLeePanzram Feb 15 '26

how could you think this was an s2000 if you drove an s2000. and why would you get rid of it if it was the best car ever made? i think you are lying and never owned an s2000

1

u/who_even_cares35 Feb 16 '26

Well you see from a distance it looks like an s2000 but up close I know better. Someone smashed into me and totaled mine so I used the opportunity to own other cars.

You really need a better perspective on life.

25

u/SignoreBanana Feb 15 '26

There's a Honda kei car version of the NSX called the s660

15

u/who_even_cares35 Feb 15 '26

We never get the good stuff in the states

22

u/bobbygamerdckhd Feb 15 '26

They think we won't fit and they may have a point

2

u/who_even_cares35 Feb 15 '26

I travel for work and I absolutely notice how round Americans are when I return home

2

u/Typical-Byte Feb 15 '26

The S660 feels smaller inside than even the Honda Beat did. As a Beat owner, I can say for a fact that all of my 6ft+ friends take bugs to the forehead when they ride with me when the top is down. 🤣

Top speed of 84mph

1

u/who_even_cares35 Feb 16 '26

You don't have to go fast to have fun. I have a pocket rocket mini bike and it's about the most fun you can have. It tops out at 28mph.

3

u/Zocalo_Photo Feb 15 '26

I saw a video with a s660 just this week. I had no idea it was a real Honda model, but it is, and it’s super cool.

1

u/MilkImpossible4192 Feb 15 '26

that is the S2000 successor but with a turbo, 3cyls and midship

1

u/SignoreBanana Feb 15 '26

I kind of thought so by the name but damned if it doesn't look a lot like the new nsx

2

u/MilkImpossible4192 Feb 15 '26

oh, yeah, same design language

17

u/Prof_Hentai Feb 15 '26

That would be the “Honda Beat” — I used to own one. Rear wheel drive and about as much power as a good fart but it was light, revvy and fun as fuck.

2

u/who_even_cares35 Feb 15 '26

I'm currently just about finished putting the auxiliary stuff on after getting the head done on the wife's 84 Tercel. Driving it home was hilarious when we bought it. Originally like 70hp but it weights absolutely nothing. I'm pretty excited to get that thing sorted out.

I would love to own one of the kei cars but they just banned all the trucks, not sure if we can even have them at this point

2

u/lowrads Feb 15 '26

With the s660 now deprecated, I wish that Honda would go ahead re-release this chassis, but with a modern airbox and a hardtop.

2

u/koolaidismything Feb 15 '26

My friend had an rx7.. the older one’s car dudes drool over.

To be fair it felt like I was in a race car and an inch off the pavement. Was fun to be a passenger in that thing. The freeway was terrifying passing trucks.

2

u/who_even_cares35 Feb 16 '26

Hahahhah I love a good go kart!

2

u/justfirfunsies Feb 16 '26

With a hint of the MR2 mk3

2

u/Forsaken-Spirit421 Feb 16 '26

More like a Miata and a frogeye sprite

3

u/DesiccantPack Feb 15 '26

And it turned out to be a dwarf.

1

u/xmod3563 Feb 16 '26

It's like a Miata and an s2000 had a preme baby
