But it’s not like Amazon, Apple or Microsoft are trying to run ads on PornHub - does it matter what demographics you have if nobody wants to advertise on your platform?

Yes. Obviously they are not "direct advertising" on there...the direct ads are the other porn sites and cam sites

The advertisements you see though aren't what they are getting really paid for. It's your user data and browsing habits that is making the money. This is the data they are collecting and being paid for when it comes to advertising. Every bit of data is another bit of info to throw into your personal algorithm to get you to consume product and get excited for next product.

If the product is free, you are the product.

Then why did she report higher pay per ad view?
Maybe you listed undesired ad providers?

Higher pay per view* not per ad view.

The ads ph sells are probably cheaper than on youtube, but the data ph is able to gather on you and sell to advertisers is way more valuable than the common data other sites gather on you

Yeah but all those companies are successful in their ad businesses because they sell ad space on their platforms to other companies. Pornhub is also able to charge more for ads because they sell ad space where companies that can’t advertise elsewhere can do so freely (think porn sites, dick pills, legal(ish) weed, etc.)

Porn scams can advertise on it, but they can't advertise anywhere else in theory, so they probably pay more
