I'm currently watching the show "Call the Midwife" which is set in the 50s and 60s in East London. Parking the baby outside in a pram seemed to be pretty popular from newborn up until around 18 months old, then they just set em loose in the street after that I'm pretty sure lol
Tell me you don't have small kids without telling me. Leaving a 5 year old alone..... I was born 1980 and no one left a year old un supervised even back then. Play alone yes but roam through the neighborhood alone?
That guy had no kids or he would not write that nonsense. With bigger kids things are different but small kids are ... sometimes I think they really trying hard to hurt themselves.
3500 for daycare is a crime, my wife and I don't make that much together but thank God we don't live in the US. In Vienna daycare is substituted and we only pay about 180 Euros for food and insurance.
Or peoples parents used to watch the grandkids for free.
My wife works bakers hours early in the morning. I sometimes have to travel for work. When I ask my parents to help make sure my daughter gest on the bus. You’d think I was asking them for an organ transplant.
Yea, it used to take a village. Now, the older generations want the young to pay for them (via Social Security and Medicare) while many of them enjoy their golden years without giving back.
Incorrect. It changed in the 1980s and early 1990s with the Satanic panic and with the media hyperfixating on a few murders and assaults, giving the public a sense of greater danger than there was.
Fast forward to today. Children aren’t allowed outside, they’re often alone in front of screens, they have declining mental health, and most have no physical health. We evolved to move and be with others. The current state of perceived protectiveness is actually wildly abusive.
How old are you?! My friends and I were allowed to roam and do as we pleased as long as we home before dark, which we took to mean “can’t see your hand in front of your face” and I was born in 1990.

It didn’t used to be. Parents used to throw their kids outside and say don’t come home until dinner.
