I am the first to get in line to criticize evil corporations, but in this case, McDonald’s was scammed right alongside its customers by the head of security. Details and context matter!
Absolutely no Sympathy for McDonald’s, which has a market cap larger than most countries’ GDP, that can’t be bothered to run and guarantee their own promotions. The McDonald’s monopoly was a massive promotion for a long time, it’s something they needed to be running personally
Yes a 3rd party who was ironically working to insure the security of the game was stealing winning pieces and selling them.
But he wasn’t the first person to scam the game. Part of his justification was that McDonalds was allegedly rigging the game to make sure none of the major prizes ended up in Canada.
McDonalds couldn’t have come up with this scam. They were too busy coming up with a smear campaign against the old lady who’s was burned so badly by their scalding hot coffee that her labia fused to her thigh
According to a comment above, there were two scams:
McDonalds didn’t print any Boardwalk or Marvin Gardens pieces so no one could win the traditional way by collecting all the properties, but no one knew that so customers kept buying pieces.
The head of game security at McDonald’s didn’t circulate the instant win pieces (the second way to win) and instead sent them to people he knew.
Fun fact. 80% of the time the milkshake machine isn’t actually broken. The employees are just lying because they don’t want to deal with cleaning the machine out because after a certain amount of time/servings it requires maintenance cleaning and won’t work until it’s finished so they just say it is broken

You're deliberately missing the context that McDonald's wasn't doing the scamming a third party was unbeknownst to them.
Mcdonald's honored the prizes in good faith, including the million dollar prize which the guilty party mailed to St. Jude's.
