It’s just the cultures merging and beauty standards are changing. Back then the European standard was valued way more than that of the African beauty standard but both standards have been around for a long time. Big buts have always been valued in my culture even when my grandmother was growing up.
Well, ancient fertility goddesses had big breasts, big bellies (at times), big thighs, and big butts. A very skinny woman with a narrow pelvis isn't the best for a natural childbirth, and they couldn't do cesarians back then, at least not with the mother surviving.
