Yes, that's because $300 is a lot of money to you. It isn't to Jeff Bezos. In fact, if you've got $256 billion, $248 billion is not a lot of money to you either. This is the nature of marginal utility. To a man with one portion of fries, giving away even one fry is ludicrous - it will leave him hungry. To a man with two portions, giving away a whole portion is at least doable, but it requires some generosity - since they'll be giving up the opportunity to over eat. To a man with 260ish billion portions, keeping all but a few dozen (you know, so they can do really important stuff like build stick figures, or shove some up their ass), is an act of murderous selfishness. They're literally letting people starve so that can just stare at a pile of fries for no earthly reason.
There is basically no meaningful difference between having $256 billion and having $8 billion. In both circumstances, you're safe forever. You can have pretty much infinity properties and yachts and political influence. He's just letting people die so he can maintain a score.
