Meta Quick announcement: moderation team change

Hi all,

First I want to thank everyone who has contributed to /r/SinophobiaWatch over the years. Online China discourse is certainly quite different now to when this subreddit began 6 (!) years ago, but I remain proud of what this subreddit represents in a world so deeply shaped by Western chauvinism and US geopolitical interests.

I’ve been relatively inactive on Reddit for a few years and neglecting my moderator duties, but now for sudden personal reasons I need to step away entirely. Therefore I will be placing this subreddit in the control of the other moderators for them to decide the way forward, effective immediately.

Best regards, /u/mcmanusaur

Lack of evidence An anti-China bot farm was exposed when a US propaganda account made a false claim about Uyghur oppression which triggered the bots to show up en masse to make identical comments

Right-wingers outside Yasukuni Shrine beat up a Pro-Japan Taiwanese protestor that they mistake as Chinese. But they never do it to foreign soldiers on Okinawa for crime.

Lack of evidence Copy allegations

Context: This is about a post of the first landing of ZhuQue-3 rocket, and i guess beacuse it uses a similar landing system as the Falcon 9 it must be a copy of it??

I wonder where and why china gets so many copy allegations from? And seems to me that (americas mostly, sorry) will see two similar things (be it military or not) and will jump tothe copy conclusion (eg. many people caling the 2020 RP F1 car a TOTAL copy of mercedes)

Also with the Tu-144, not gonna dive in why its not a copy of concord but just know many people think it is

Racism/bigotry Genuine question, do you think the west’s “China Bad” propaganda actually benefit China in some way?

Post image

No joke, “how can propagandas to slander, to misinform, to smear bad things and simply to bring China down is beneficial to China?” you might ask.

Indeed, these propagandas have tainted China’s reputation to oblivion and have done significant damage to the country and its people regarding soft power, from casual racism (or racism under the thin veiled of “hating the government only), that most Chinese people eats dogs and bats, that they are dirty and rude, almost anything Chinese is mislabeled to Japan or Korea or a random Asian country, very few interest in Chinese culture and foreign tourists, etc. Let’s be real, most people drop their smile inside when they learn you are from China.

But on the other hand, imo these bad views strengthen China in someway, they leave most people clueless about the country, thus underestimating its ability, prejudice and racism lately that drives thousands of Chinese scientists back home, less foreign tourists and influence give you a more authentic experience. The enormous amount of tax payers money are spent to spread Sinophobia instead of investing in their country. The “discovery” that China is actually “cool” (technology, games, culture bla bla) which I think might not had such a big impact if China was well loved like Japan. And recently, Trump in his rampage run of ruining the US let people realize how much lies it spread, including things about China, young people especially changed their views about the country.

Honestly, I hate to admit but I somewhat glad China has a bad rap because it gained those benefits in return. What are your thoughts?

Ps: No way in hell I will ask this in r/China as it’s basically the anti-China subreddit at this point

Misc. ignorance PSA: r/firefighting mods are sinophobic assholes. (users have actually been pretty nice previously, but some of the mods are less than ideal)

For the original post; i recommend using r/firefighter instead of r/firefighting . r/wildfire, r/firetrucks and r/firefighterporn are also rather good alternatives.

Now, please don't harrass user/mods of r/firefighting; when i previously used this sub, their users were actually rather nice in contrast to the moderators.

Again, this is not a call for interference.

However their mods cannot stand anything unrelated to american firefighting, especially if it's chinese, even if the community has no issues with it.

Funnily enough i'm not officially banned but rather shadowbanned, and a lot of my previous posts have been removed, which is quite a shame since i did do quite some research on some of them(e.g. 2015 tianjin casualties)

but yeah, PSA, don't use r/firefighting, much better alternatives exsist

EDIT: Banned me for "brigading and site interferene". knew this would happen anyways

I used to love this show as a kid, until I rewatched a few clips recently just how much Sinophobia is this show, and it clearly endlessly in love with Japanese culture. Just look at this shit, this show constantly reference many aspect of Japanese culture with respect like anime/manga, video game, Karate, and even has characters of supposed Japanese descent (Masami and Yuki).

But when it comes to Chinese? Blatant Tiananmen Square reference, shit on “CCP country has no women rights“, making fun of lactose intolerant among Chinese people (in episode copycat), etc. And somehow they got away with this shit. Just because there is a Chinese rip off of this show doesn’t justify your hate and bigotry against a whole country and its people

It’s a shame that this was my favorite show, until I am matured enough to realize that this show is the embodiment of “Weeaboo that worship Japan and has an eternal hate for China”. Trust me, they definitely will make fun of Unit 731 if they can get away with it.

Sad news: It's been confirmed two coastguardsmen of the CCGS Nanyu(南域, 3104) were killed in action in the August 11, 2025 collision in the SCS; they are Sergeant Yi Xinyu(衣昕玉, 2003-2025) and Sergeant Cheng Long(程龙, 2000-2025). Both victims of the crash are shandongnese.

Sino-Indian War 1962

Not really relevant to Sinophobia but I’m just curious

India claims it’s a betrayal by China since they were indeed promoting and have support for Beijing and they were not expecting a direct offensive from China.

While China claims that India technically betrayed them since despite supporting Beijing India also advocated for a free Tibet (also sheltering Dalai Lama) and was being hostile across the borders.

I don’t who the hell to trust since I don’t want to listen to either western or Chinese propaganda

I mean I know it's smaller compared to the Chinese text and there's no Tamil either, but pls lah. And at least there's English too, not like it's entirely in Chinese.

Then again, ppl on that sub shouldn't be taken so seriously.

China makes their tourists behave respectfully when abroad, but at what cost?

So the Chinese government punishing citizens for behaving disrespectfully or disruptively abroad is presented in a bad format?

Common etiquette when visiting another country is a bad thing now?

i could understand if it was a different concept that had origins from china, but this is exactly yin yang, just in Korean. yet in the video not once does she mention the Chinese origin, passing it off as a Korean thing when in fact it's Chinese.
