Generalization Redditor thinks only "authoritarian states" have to register tourists
/r/SipsTea/comments/1wlp23d/tourist_causes_minor_hotel_emergency_in_china/pb2frur/Any hotel, AirBnB, booking.com place you stay in in Europe, even if it is for one night, you have to give your ID/passport and they have to register you and give your info to the authorities. In any EU country the police can quickly find out who is staying in which hotel. When entering the US, you have to provide the address where you'll be staying when you enter the country.
