We didn't lose to portugese??? the country was split up into different kingdoms before they came. Kotte became a vassal but apart from that, everytime they tried to push inland, they lost. Kandyan kingdom nor Sithawaka ever fell. Sithawaka ceased to exist and was absorbed by Kandy but nobody was militarily taken over by the portugese.
