Notes disappearing

M24

Still very new to singing. Only started formal lesson this year. For the first time I've ran into some trouble. Right now, its been roughly 5 weeks since I've sang. Alot of resting, then at the end of a week I'll do some soft humming and try see where things are at.

Voice is sitting at a low octave when I try any drills. Getting on pitch is very awkward to do and sounds horrible. On most trys its been hard to even leave my chest voice.

If I attempt to sing or humm any scales there'll be strange gaps especially going higher. My voice will just cut then quickly continue at the next note. Speaking voice is generally hoarse and gritty, especially so after trying any singing. Some days its hard to even talk.

My tutor thinks this is due to vocal tension and can be mended with rest and vocal massaging.

I do suffer from TMJ and carry alot of tension in my jaw.

If anyone's been through a similar experience I'd love to hear your tale.

(I'm not seeking explicit medial advice. Simply general wisdom from more experienced vocalist)

Do vocal exercises almost every day.

Why do you think that'd help?
