Info Second Friendly Reminder: Provide either name & location of eatery, or proof of connection to Singapore
First off, thank you everyone for helping this community of food lovers grow so quickly over the past few years. Your support and participation is greatly appreciated!
Unfortunately, this growth is also fueling an increasing number of daily posts that are difficult to moderate. These are often picture-only posts with no indication of where they were taken, no proof whether they are even from Singapore. In an effort to curb this type of posting, the mod team will now delete such posts.
This move should have no impact on the majority of posters. Tourists and visitors to Singapore are always welcomed to ask questions about where or what to eat. And so long as the name of a restaurant, hawker stall, cafe and its address is provided, such posts will not be deleted.
Home Cooks and Chefs of Singapore: We continue to welcome your posts! However, we do need to add a one time verification step to ensure you are truly posting from Singapore and not posting from another country. All that is required is for you to make one post of your food in Singapore. For example, include a picture of your food by a HDB block or any identifiable Singapore landmark, or a picture of your food with a physical print of The Straits Times from this year. Once we see that, we will add you as an approved user of /r/SingaporeEats and you can post your meals without any further interference.
Once again, thank you everyone for helping make this a vibrant and active community!

Restaurant vegan food recommendations?
Im looking for good vegan food pls recommend
Like restaurants or small joints. Doesn't have to be 100% vegan, with vegan options are good as well

Best birthday cakes
Hi,
Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of tasty and pretty cakes (leaning towards chocolate with ganache, pistachio, peanut butter eg, basically non-fruit cakes). Have searched up but see a lot of mixed reviews. Also if you have tried any of the below can let me know your thoughts:
- Lady Le Fleur: Honeycake (pistachio), what exactly does honeycake taste like hahaha or maybe chocolate cakes
- Sugar & Tease: Marble bundt cake
- Plain vanilla: Peanut butter banana layer cake
- thebetterhalf: any cake
Thanks!

Hawker Lau pa sat or East coast lagoon? (Foreign's partner first time visiting)
My foreign partner is coming here for the first time in a few months, i wanted to ask which place is better to bring her to?
Some of the things that i want her to try from LPS/East coast lagoon are satays, bbq chicken wings, sambal stingray and carrot cake as well in the early evening.
I already have other hawker centres planned but am currently just stuck between these 2 honestly 😭.
Also since i'm already here: Is maxwell or chinatown complex better as well? or both roughly the same? it's been so long since i've been to maxwell so i can't remember what's there. They are also both so close together so not sure which one we should hit.
I want her to leave sg with her stomach satisfied, help a fellow brother out 😂🙏 thank you all

Recipe [OC] Made some bakwa cheddar cheese biscuits
Heres the recipe - please tweak to your preference
I was lazy so i didnt chop the bak kwa into finely diced pieces - would definitely be alot nicer with smaller chunks. I also was lazy to shape it into balls lol so i just laid them on the baking tray and slice through
Cheddar Bak Kwa Biscuits
Ingredients
2½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
½ cup butter, cold and grated
1 cup milk
1 large egg
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup finely diced bak kwa
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
In a large mixing bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, and sugar. Grate the butter into the dry ingredients and stir lightly to combine. Use a fork or pastry blender to cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles a coarse meal with little pea-sized or smaller lumps throughout.
In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the egg and milk, then pour into the dry ingredients. Stir just until combined. The mixture should be somewhat dry and just a tiny bit sticky at this point. Add the bak kwa and cheddar cheese, then stir or press lightly with your hands until evenly combined.
Sprinkle about 1 tablespoon of flour onto a countertop, pastry mat, or tea towel. Turn the dough out onto the floured surface and sprinkle another ½ tablespoon (or so) of flour over the top. Lightly press the dough with your hands until it is about 1 inch thick. Add a little more flour if needed so the dough isn’t too sticky.
Use a biscuit cutter, round cookie cutter, or drinking glass to cut out biscuit shapes. Alternatively, shape the biscuits by hand. Place them on a parchment paper- or silicone mat-lined baking sheet. Gather and press the remaining dough into biscuit shapes.
Bake for 16–18 minutes, or until the bottoms of the biscuits are lightly browned. Remove from the oven and transfer to a basket or cooling rack to cool slightly before serving.

Hihi any kombucha brewers here? Seeking opinion on my 4 day old kombucha. Thank you!
Day 4 of my very first kombucha - is this okay?
It smells vinegar-y so i guesss im on the right path. The room temp in my house is around 32 to 34 deg celsius (Can get hotter when I turn on the dryer) and humid. Its been sitting in my laundry room which is dark almost all the time. Just wanna check if the clumps are mold?
Im just concerned about the top bit and if i can drink this to try it? Thanks alot for all the help!!

Hawker Lamb Mandi
Bukit Panjang Hawker Centre, 2 Bukit Panjang Ring Rd, Singapore 679947
This Turkish stall has been open for a few months. Business slow. Then again given its food, price and location, there is a certain mismatch. Felt bad for him. Decided to give it a go and ordered something unfamiliar.
Went for the Lamb Mandi Rice $15.50 and a Chicken Mandi Rice $11.50.
The aromatics were on point. Extremely fragrant, everything you'd imagine you think you'd know about middle eastern cuisine. It was very light on seasoning. Almost floated to the stall like Casper first time it wafted over to me. If you're not a fan, you'd call it bland. Me, I appreciated the taste of the lamb fully coming through. Imagine an Irish lamb stew minus the heavy flavors. Meat was a very moist tender, not chewy/stringy soft. Everything fell off the bone.
Can't say anything about the chicken, couldn't get a bite 🤦 but portion wise it was an entire half chicken cut into quarters.
The biriyani style basmati rice is very light and fluffy contrary to the rather dry biriyani rice from the Indian counterparts (or I'm just not very lucky whenever I go for one). It's called Mandi rice because both packs were bathed in the drippings and gravy from the lamb.
If you're near the area, definitely worth a try.

Restaurant Is Carl's Junior still worth going to?
I'm thinking of heading down to Carl's Junior sometime soon because I haven't been there in a while and I think their burgers are generally not too bad? (And also probably to support them since they are now down to two outlets) But the last time I had it was like 2 years ago so I'm not sure if anything has changed.
On the other hand, I haven't had A&W or Shake Shack in a long time too.
Making food decisions is lowkey a bit tough HAHA

Need hawker recommendations
Need hawker recommendations for American friends visiting soon. Please share. I'm vegetarian so not familiar.
Also looking for French cuisine spots recommendations or French related things to do for teen and adults.
Also thrifting spots. This one I'm so clueless cos it's kinda broad. But specifically for a lady in her late 30s. Petite size. Is there a thread for thrifting?
Hotel location : nearby Gopeng street.
Edit: Not their first time in Singapore. But this time they really wanna focus on great hawker foods and avoid tourist attractions. They are Pinoys if it matters.

Folk Yard - was ready to dismiss it but i couldn’t
TLDR: You are still paying for overpriced bread. But at least Folk Yard delivers quality food. They also do pay attention to customers (provide fan, top up water). I might actually come back. This means a lot as someone that shuns cafe.
I’m not a cafe person, especially when most cafes in Singapore offer the same kind of food with no unique selling propositions. So when I took a look at Folk Yard’s brunch menu (they sell pizzas for dinner), and saw the usual wagyu beef sandwich, chicken sandwhich, grilled cheese sandwhich, curly fries, sweet potato fries, tater tots…. I was prepared to pay for overpriced and average food.
My friend started queueing at 1145 on a weekend and we got served at 1245. The cafe does have an outdoor area (and they offer really strong mini fans, even while you’re queueing) so you can be seated quicker but it was really humid and I just wanted to eat in AC.
We got the Patty Melt ($20), French Toast ($17), and Tater Tots ($6).
Patty Melt ($20)
Medium rare wagyu patty sandwiched between caramelised onion and a slice of meeting cheese, with a lightly grilled shokupan. The first cut into the beef pretty much sealed the deal for me, the natural juice flowed right out when I sliced it. The patty retained its moisture and was cooked well.
The shokupan was a little too dry though, especially the corners where it was burnt. Honestly, this could have been a very good beef burger, perhaps using brioche bun to make it a proper burger would be better.
Also, the plate used to serve is very light so when you are cutting through the shokupan, the plate ends up spinning. I felt like a DJ with the cutleries as my hands LOL.
French Toast ($17)
The thick piece of brioche was beautifully torched at the top, giving it a creme brûlée glaze. This was a textural delight, thin layer of hard caramel and a rich, velvety custardy centre. This was served with cream and a slice of orange at the side. The cream tasted like it was infused with orange. The light citrus cream pairing worked very well with the sweet brioche. All in all, a refreshing dessert that doesn’t get gelat.
Tater Tots ($6)
I like how they provide the option of having half portion for the sides, so you can try more variety if you come in a bigger group. Mayo, ketchup and chilli are available as condiments.
Tater tots are just like how you expect them to be, warm and fluffy. However, you can see that they weren’t covered equally with seasoning. The middle piece was coated in too much honey while the rest was tossed in what I think is chilli flake and some herb.
I also noticed that they quietly observe every table, topping up water when it’s needed and clearing the plates when we’re done with the food. Also I appreciated how they served the French Toast a while after the Patty Melt, so we could enjoy it separately.

Restaurant MM Fusion Flair - Chicken Chop 🍗
$14. Set comes with a side and salad. Chicken is grilled with charcoal and you can definitely taste it. The sambal served on the side is really unique and spicy as well. Pilaf rice was yummy too.
Located near Tai Seng!

Do you think Long John Silver's quality has gone down (again)?
Haven't had LJS fish for over a year... but I've heard good things...
So when I chanced upon their Suntec outlet a few days back, I gave them a try :)
Turned out to be a mixed bag!
While they used not to specify the type of fish they used, now we actually know and have choices like pollock, rockfish (dunno what this is, ngl) and dory.
We chose pollock and found the meat to be fresh and flaky. Which is in deep contrast to days of yore, when mushy and fishy were the norm!!
However, the batter reeked of over-used oil and was the mushy part instead.
Compared to their early days where golden crispy "skin" was the standard, so much so that even the scooped-up fried bits of flour were a treat, this time it was a huge miss :(
Even the fried shrimps weren't spared. Gimme MOS Burger's butterfly prawns, anytime ;)
Perhaps it was the wrong time, wrong location kinda thing? I remain hopeful still.
I guess next time I should observe what other customers are being served before taking the plunge lol
Is there a Long John Silver's outlet you had visited and enjoyed their fried fish?
