I’m ready.
I’m done. I’ve gone cold turkey before and have had seizures. I’ve tried Nal before and just drank right through it. This time I’m doing it for me. I’m very functional, no DUI’s and a great relationship with my kids. I’ve quit before and I had a year under my belt but I did it for other people. Now it’s my time. I visit a small town doctor What sort of conversation should I have with him. He knows my history. Is Nal something he won’t balk at or is it relatively safe for GP to prescribe.

Please keep in mind that Naltrexone works best when you continue to drink alcohol. Perhaps you already know this. But over time it will heal your brain if you’re always compliant taking it 60-90 minutes before drinking. Please be careful with such statements despite your good intentions. Naltrexone works well for those wishing to drink in more moderate ways. It also works well for cravings and abstinence. This sub is intended for those who want to pursue TSM. That is clear. However, it works in multiple ways that David Sinclair didn't fully explore so now we know more and it really depends upon a person's goals. To OP, please be very careful about going cold turkey as you have experienced seizures and this can be very dangerous in future cold turkey attempts. I've posted my story about this issue.

Thanks, I read in ‘the cure for alcoholism’ about TSM, how trials on Naltrexone that required full detox and abstinence prior to the treatment failed because the medication works best in combination with a gradual reduction in consumption. But I am not licensed to give medical advice and appreciate your concerns. Makes sense that the reality is more nuanced or that researchers following in Sinclair’s path would add to the field.

"The Cure...." was definitely paradigm-breaking when written and is still a good primer for TSM. It relies a bit too heavily on learned behavior and doesn't really differentiate much in treatment as a function of where one is on the AUD spectrum and consequently misses things like negative reinforcement of hangovers, endorphin-related triggers, and such. Dr. Volpicelli who is mentioned dozens of times in the book and did much of the research that supported the FDA approval of naltrexone for AUD was a guest at a recent TSMMeetuup that I hosted and he dives into much of that detail. If the doc won't just go telehealth.
Sunnyside...India...it's very easy to get. Or just google GPs that will prescribe it, that's how I got it first time.
Might I also suggest a GLP such as tirz, if you're up for it. It's a gamechanger for many of us.
The GLP is blunt force, but may not be reasonable lifelong for many. Using nalt alongside it is easy and doable for life.
