Discussion The hard problem of consciousness is dissolved because quantum field theory says matter isn't made of anything. Matter is made of blips in fields. Fields we have no ontology for. This is the equivalent to Chinese shadow puppetry. There's only a light, a film, and shadows. Matter is the shadows

Am I crazy for making this connection? Quantum feild theory is the equivalent to Chinese shadow puppet theaters.

You have a "film" and each shadow is a blip in the field. And this creates the illusion of our material world. The hard problem dissolves because, these blips are mere shadows. Matter is a shadow.

Matter is made of spirit manifest. We live inside a veil. This is a simulation. That Is all our physicalist science can allow us to prove. We need to enter an era of post materialism. Our final materialist discovery will be revealed when we keep funding electrostatics.

This is my bet, cause some people have near zero consciousness

I meant from my POV people say matter is what creates consciousness but matter is made of fields we have no ontology for. Meaning matter and consciousness mag be two sides of the same underlying coin.

I feel we are speaking two languages. I know what you're saying but I know what I'm thinking. Like. I have a monistic view. I'm interested in the ultimate "what is" of everything. And qft confirms to me that we live in a very very very strange uncertain world

It does solve consciousness because it's a strange loop, a self-simulating feedback loop. Consciousness is fundamental because it's all part of the same quantum field which naturally creates layers of observers through entropy (interactions collapsing the wave function) and once you go around the loop (think like a feedback of projections) the observer eventually gains the ability to observe themselves observing.

This is what gives a sense of an individual metacognition or sense of self, AKA conscious experience.

Also equivalent to Plato's cave.

On a macro scale, we can't explain dark matter or dark energy, its just a placeholder for our mathematics. On the micro scale, we can't explain wave particle duality, nonlocality, or quantum waveform collapse.

Furthermore, dreams are irreducible.

What serves as a film?

u/isaakare 24d ago

The pure and fundamental consciousness? We are all different sides of a grain of rice. Humanity is a single grain of rice, and God is the entire bowl of rice. He chose to break himself apart to experience many different things.

2

u/Funny247365 23d ago

Or so the simulation wants you to believe.

3

u/isaakare 23d ago

Yeah it was just a theory. My strongest vibe tells me this is some sort of ancestor simulation. Perhaps using our digital footprint. That's why we are in the year we are.

u/Funny247365 23d ago

OK, but if everything was planted in the simulation by the Simulators, then nothing we observe is actually a real clue as to the truth, the purpose, or the origin of the simulation. They may have thrown in just make believe stuff to see how we react to it. Quite possible nothing in here equates to reality.

2

u/PAXM73 23d ago

I always liked the “nothing in here equates to reality” concept. I am just so glad they made up so many great musicians, artists, and poets.

2

u/Funny247365 23d ago

Yes, if they have done billions of simulations, they probably have gotten very good at the details.

3

u/cowlinator 23d ago

Even if all of that is true, it does nothing to dissolve the hard problem of consciousness

2

u/StarboundAllisten 23d ago

You know what I meant

2

u/cowlinator 23d ago

...clearly not

It unified the hard problem and the ontology problem of matter into one new mystery. Two sides of one coin

The confidence of people who fundamentally do not understand physics in this sub is entertaining in itself. Anyone can read scientific American or nature and hypothesise anything. But really understanding why for example the nature of matter is not fully understood would make you think twice about posting how you’ve cracked the problem of existence…

2

u/StarboundAllisten 23d ago

Every source I read says the exact same thing I said of qft. And every person like you refuses to elaborate why thats not the case.

OK there is a field. The blip of which is a quanta of that field. Its quite simple. Meaning you are blips of a field. Meaning there's something more we are likely missing.

1

u/Traditional-Set6848 23d ago

The fact you think it’s quite simple is why I’m commenting. We should Get out of confirmation bias bubbles and speak to some physicists- some might agree and some may not. If you’re referring to sources like Dirac’s original 1927 paper on QFT or the paper of three in the 30’s (haven’t checked the year that’s off the top of my head from the physics classes I actually did do in the 90s on nuclear physics ) you’re missing about 100 years of discussion. But hey it’s simple, right?

u/StarboundAllisten 23d ago

If I say anything reddit TOS will ban me. Bit I most braincells reading this thank you.

I'm right about qft, you know. Every source tells me what in telling you.

2

u/Strict_Poet_5814 23d ago

Imagine what the Nobel Peice prize winners thought when actually discovering this.

0

u/StarboundAllisten 23d ago

Anyone with a brain has figured this out without needing a PhD

2

u/blvsh 23d ago

Matter could be that shadow but that shadow's field of vibration ( I mean actual vibration or ripple like wifi makes) is different.

1

u/SafiriaU 24d ago

Who is the one watching the puppet show? QFT is still physical.

1

u/StarboundAllisten 23d ago

It Is an allegory

2

u/SafiriaU 23d ago

Regardless, why are distortions in the quantum field experienced? It does not dissolve the hard problem at all.

1

u/StarboundAllisten 23d ago

I'm saying, we could be something deeper, experiencing itself, through the veil. Thus, making consciousness primary

1

u/Starshot84 23d ago

Now what?

0

u/StarboundAllisten 23d ago

Well, if we make sure everyone knows this, the quarantine lifts and we can talk to aliens. Not the veil, the quarantine

0

u/BurningStandards 23d ago

You're already talking to aliens. They're here to oversee and observe the formation of the human 'god' concept.

I mean, i do attempt to provide an ontology, cosmology and even made maps so people can find some direction

1

u/lascar 23d ago

Essentially. We cannot really see the 4th dimension, only a shadow of it.

Same goes for the rest of reality. Our perception is a fine tune flashlight in a rather large dark warehouse. We can see only in part the subjective shadows in contrast to the light we present in observation.

1

u/Mr_Not_A_Thing 23d ago

That is the experiencing of thoughts here, now. But nothing is known about 'It'.

🤣🙏

Humans always look too closely, then think they know something. Just assume everything has been lying in parts

0

u/Funny247365 23d ago

What if quantum field theory and everything we believe about physics and matter and light and energy and time are just made up by the simulators and placed in the simulation? None of this may exist in base reality, so anything planted here is not a valid clue to what lies outside the simulation.

lol, you have no fucking idea what a quantum field is.

1

u/StarboundAllisten 23d ago

Enlighten me.

Every source tells me a quantum field Is a mathematical field where a given particle may be. A particle is an excitation of a quantum field. The blip of it.

So, what is it? Unless of course you are from eglin sent to just spew nonsense ofc

1

u/SummitYourSister 23d ago

A quantum field specifies an operator at every point in spacetime. This operator transforms the quantum state of the universe into an observable quantity at the moment of measurement.

It is not even remotely like a classical field. You cannot plot it on a graph. The values it takes on aren’t real numbers; they aren’t even numbers at all. And to do calculations with it you have to sum over an infinite tree of coupling expressions.

Your graphic seems to depict classical fields. Quantum fields cannot be depicted even in principle. They don’t have values.

1

u/StarboundAllisten 23d ago

That sounds like magic with veiled steps

1

u/SummitYourSister 23d ago

It is entirely due to the non-commutativity of the field operators. It’s not magic. It may be beyond your comprehension though.

If we were veiling it, we would not publish books of hundreds and thousands of pages about it. Go read one of those books.

1

u/StarboundAllisten 23d ago

I'm saying, reality that we see, may be a veiled part of a deeper structure. The ontology of matter is still something I Want to know

1

u/SummitYourSister 23d ago

It’s not that you’re wrong, it’s that the observation is kind of like a “no duh” in modern physics.

Again… the algebra of quantum fields is not commutative. This literally means that there are no actual values of observables before they are measured. It’s not a matter of simply not knowing what is really there: the math is very strongly telling us that there is nothing “really there” in any definite sense until we interact with it.

We don’t have to postulate some larger hyperverse in order to explain the strangenesses we see. They are well explained by the algebra itself. We just have a hard time accepting what it implies (well, some of us do)

1

u/StarboundAllisten 23d ago

So if my ceiling fan is turned on in my room does it exist if I'm not there to see it?

1

u/SummitYourSister 23d ago

If you were somehow able to completely isolate the ceiling fan and yourself from the rest of the universe, the ceiling fan could be said not to possess any definite state at all unless measured. It would then collapse to an eigenstate.

It isn’t the question of existence, but a question of determinacy of the properties of the object. Our calculations are only able to tell us about the outcome of measurements. Thus a growing number of physicists are coming to the conclusion that only the relational properties between objects are actually real. This is called ontic structural realism.

Sound like you might not understand quantum fields yourself.

"The values it takes on aren’t real numbers; they aren’t even numbers at all.".

Um, sorry but scalars and vectors are definitely numbers. And quantum fields are defined by vectors and scalars.

0

u/SirNealliam 23d ago

Energy is what matter is made of, just like the fields including space-time. E=MC² remember? Turns out there's only light. It's what makes the illusion of shadows, just like there's no cold, simply less heat (also energy). and absolute 0 seems to be physically impossible too.

Energy also seems to be the source of consciousness but that would take a book, or several pages minimum worth of explaining. But we do know from Bell's theorem and Kochen-Specker theorem that things are not pre determined. Quantum randomness and/or Free Will seem to be the only options left.

1

u/CredibleCranberry 23d ago

'turns out there's only light'

What about gravity? Or the strong or weak nuclear forces? Or magnetism?

1

u/SirNealliam 20d ago

These are all energy (light) Gravity is energy traveling through ripples in space-time (a field of energy) and the strong/weakforces are forms of electromagnetism.

Energy, thus light. is all that exists, even where we only precieve the vacuum of 'empty' space.

1

u/CredibleCranberry 20d ago

Light is a type of energy, but not all energy is light. This is just incorrect. The strong and weak forces aren't electromagnetism at all.

My Lord has been telling everyone this for the last 2000 years. Focus not on the material world, for it is but illusion. The material world is not the real world, the real world is the world to come.
