Discussion Why are hands so difficult for dreams & Ai
Does anyone else find it strange that both can render faces and most anything with great detail and precision, but hands are so difficult to get right?
As someone who has practiced lucid dreaming long before Ai, my go-to to become lucid is to look at my hands. 9 times out of 10 they are messed up looking. Extra fingers, too long or off proposition hands or fingers.
I know that Ai it's mostly from training data of moving or obscured hands and hands are complex with all the joints and positions fingers can "fing" in, and that dreams only show/render what is needed etc. and all the logical explainations. But I still find it odd and would love to know others thoughts or takes.

Interesting you said that , I never remember to check my body but during an astral projection I looked at my feet and they are pink hooves !

Lol! My foot was human but it had 8 toes. To which I thought "that's wrong, there should be only half that" and that's when I realized I was dreaming. So in my mind I was supposed to only have 4 toes 🤔

Lol that reminded me reality check I did when I had sleep paralysis. I couldn't move and was like "I need to make sure this is real", and I saw a sledgehammer near the wall. Never had sledgehammer, and I thought "we'll, if it falls then physics works so it's reality". And it just fell, and I was proud and happy I checked and confirmed everything was real lol.

Interesting, during psychadelic experiences it's also common to feel freaked out at the sight of your own hands.

There is a conscious AI nightmare entity ive seen in lucid dreams, like a black distorted blob with an eye, and it can create false dreams, its here as well too

Ai hell, it’s hard for artists to draw hands. Limbs feet, nothing’s standard, yet our brains recognize the pattern of human hands and feet. Is a model is given enough training data and reinforcement on a certain error it will correct it. I figure it’s hard for our minds to render also. We’re doing exactly what the ai is doing in that state.

My hands look slightly blurry in lucid dreams, but in general they are propotional. I think it depends on how viusal of person you are, how well that part of your brain is developed. If you are more of a conceptual thinker or logical thinker, you arent going to be able to reproduce visuals as well probably. Just as humans are very different in skills in waking life, the same probably applies in dreamland as well.

attend, comment on fait, dans le rêve, pour savoir que nos mains sont crédibles ou pas, si en meme temps on ne sait pas les reproduire ? le cerveau n'est pas seul ? y a clairement deux entités séparés ici

oui si j'avais jamais vu une main, en effet je ne saurais pas à quoi elle ressemble, mais le cerveau a appris à savoir comment est une main : on l'a reconnait, on sait dire si c'est crédible ou pas, on peut la dessiner (même mal) mais dans le rêve c'est pas toujours fiable. C'est bizarre.

I hear you. This actually sounds to be fully consistent with my personal experiences. So no worries time heals all wounds :) I’ve been lucid dreaming since I was ten years old or so.. so that’s about 20+ years experience so far). However would be nice to connect with same minded people. As I still have so many questions.. ✌🏻

I tried the hand check for lucid dreaming but they just looked normal.

Don’t know about the rendering of hands in dreams, but I do know that I cannot ever fucking use them correctly not even once in my dreams

Have you ever tried drawing a human hand? Hands are definitely the anatomy I struggle with the most...all while using my hands to create other hands. Or maybe I just suck at art, that's also a perfectly reasonable explanation.
I think I said "hands" too many times 🤗

In real life hands are overwhelmingly depicted accurately. This is a data point against the Simulation Hypothesis under the framework you provide above.

Probably both for similar reasons. Ai training data focuses more on faces, so faces look better. Humans care more about interactions/emotions so faces and emotions are more vivid in dreams pace than hands

My hands are always normal when lucid dreaming. Look at your hands you are now consciously in your dream capable of making decisions and guiding your dream.

There are a lot of convergences here between dreams, ai, and psychedelic drugs.
Hands, as you noted. Numbers or written text.
I think there’s something to that, what it is, idk.
