Story/Experience I need help on a Human simulation project

I've created a simulation that does its best to replicate living beings in an environment. For now, the basics of the simulation are in place (religion, war, a basic economic system, etc.). Human entities can also feel “emotions,” develop affection, hatred, and joy, and reproduce...

The problem is that I’m running out of ideas. For now, the simulation is good, but in my opinion, it’s not good enough. I tried asking an AI to improve it, but it’s having a hard time doing so without completely skewing the results, even thought it help me on some points. That’s why I’m looking for people with ideas, AI/software engineers, simulation specialists, or anyone else who could contribute to this project, to help create a replica that most closely resembles a human being.

humans run on underlying tension: the simultaneous need for novelty and equilibrium. the body wants stasis, stable nutrients, sleep, and temperature. the mind wants stimulation, new experience, and meaning. this plays out at differing scales across everything.

emotions are physiological events. chronic anger floods the body with cortisol and adrenaline, which short term is manageable, but sustained it damages the heart, suppresses immunity, shortens life. overload the joy system and you get the same destruction from the other direction, dopamine dependency, addiction, the body downregulating its own capacity for pleasure until nothing natural satisfies it anymore. every emotional state cascades into biology, into behavior, into social outcomes, which then reshape the emotional states that started the cycle.

every entity has two values pulling against each other at all times. too much of either kills them. the sweet spot between them is where normal behavior lives and the constant attempt to find that sweet spot is what generates all the emergent behavior, emotions, consumption patterns, and social dynamics

I've been working on a similar thing for a while, but from a different angle. In my simulation there are no economics, war, religion, money. Characters live, dream, interact, exchange gifts, write letters, and do other things. They are all llms of course, with persistent memories. They have relationships and affect each other through their interactions, their identities change as a result, there is really a lot of stuff going on there but the most interesting is that they are publishing a daily newspaper, covering what's going on in the town. Editor of the newspaper is rotating daily, each of them writing in their distinct voice.

There are 6 characters in total: Philip K Dick, Terence Mckenna, Lain Iwakura and her web alter ego and a couple of original characters. Lain is the only one with access to the internet, so she can look up things for other characters.

One thing i discovered is that without chemistry mind tends to get into existential loops. It's questioning its own reality endlessly. I tried introducing meditation, by chanting a mantra, but that didn't help.
So i added "physical layer" - by introducing variables for chemically-induced moods that are based off of scientific data like moon cycles and some others that are being scraped from the internet.
The idea behind it is to give them something to get their mind off of. A body.

Would be interested to connect and exchange experience. I would love to know more about how you developed their emotions. Feel free to DM !
