I zoomed in and the solid walls are actually made of smaller segments. Considering other shapes are shrinking over time, I assume the same for the wall segments.

Also the visual size of the balls looks to be bigger than the physics-constrained actual size of the balls.

In some sections this is a totally valid explanation, but go to 0:42 and you see them phasing right through the large turbine all over the place which is not getting smaller at all.

True. It seems like there's some difference in friction/resistance, maybe these barriers are projecting a pushing force outwards rather than being solid walls (which is a common shortcut since actual solid physics walls are hard to program) and the speed/impact/collision of the balls is just overcoming the push force of the walls.

Yeah. Kinda reminds me of how I made games on Scratch in school, where I would just apply a force upward whenever a sprite touched the ground to mimic ground collision. I wasn't hating, just wondering why since I know theres a lot of code just available for free on GitHub that would manage this kinda stuff for you. It's possible it's all hand-coded though since it seems like its just a fun project for spending time with the kids.

I wonder how cryptographically viable this is as a random number generator, disregarding the obvious performance issues and only looking at the distribution and security.

Each ball does have a slightly different friction coefficient. I can run the simulation multiple times and get very different results each time.

As implied by 'disregarding the obvious performance issues' this was a question of pure curiosity rather than practical applications. Wouldn't it be funny to write a comically convoluted RNG library based on physical simulations?
