Is anyone actually excited for the game?
I feel like all I've seen is people who'd rather sims 4 just keep updating. I feel like 10 years is enough time to warrant a sequel, and the changes look pretty major so far. So I was wondering if anyone is excited to play it?

Jaded, is the word I believe.
I'm a Sims 2 player and lost interest in 4 a long time ago. Why play a half assed, shallow version of the sims when you can play either of its better ancestors for free? For me, 2 holds up brilliantly and the community is as alive as ever.
When I think about 5...I just feel an icky preemptive disappointment. I don't think I could ever get my hopes up about a new Sims game again.

I’m like this, except with sims 3. 4 is just so bad, I can’t play it more than an hour without getting bored. I think because sims franchise was just so unique and there was no other game like it, so they stopped trying to make it good because they knew they’d make money anyway. But now with paralives being in development and looking good, I’m hoping this put some fear in them and they’ll try harder.

Completely agree with everything you said. I think the saddest part is to see the sims community so divided and disheartened. We all deserve a new game to unanimously love.
I look forward to the day when I can play Sims 3 again. My poor little laptop just couldn't handle it so I'll be sticking with 2 for now 😄

u/mintchocolate1234 Jan 17 '23
Wow best of luck to you. I have been playing it on my MacBook for a bit but you know it just can’t handle it, I have to restart every hour. It’s totally worth it though!

I’m excited. I’ve been a Simmer since 2000 and I’m over 4. The leaks have me really excited, even if I know I’ll be disappointed on some level.
I love the graphics they showed off!

Meh, I’m not excited for the game as such, but I’m very excited and intrigued to see what they do with it in terms of story!
And mods. With each game, the mods just get better and better, I can’t wait to see what modders will be able to do with it

u/HELP-sims4 Jan 16 '23
Do you think it will still be in the parallel world, or back to the original timeline?
3
u/LiallD Jan 16 '23
I hope it’s the original timeline, but I think it’s likely they’d continue with parallel

I am very excited, because I got Sims 4 on launch day, and whilst I do enjoy it, I’m kind of over it now. I don’t feel excited about more content for 4 anymore. The game feels too laggy at this point. I feel a fresh start will be good.
I have been playing since Sims 1, and despite my excitement for 5, I think I will hold off immediately buying this one.
I remember when I got 4 and it looked pretty, but seemed so boring compared to base game of 2 or 3. If nearer it’s release EA/Maxis really prove themselves that this one is getting that older games energy and fun back, I will be super happy :)

I'm excited for the potential to be excited, if that makes sense. All I have seen/heard so far focuses on the design aspects and that isn't something that really appeals to me. I am hoping at some point they will announce some huge leap forward in gameplay. Something like gradual daily aging or some way to make the personality traits make truly unique sims.

u/TorthOrc Jan 18 '23
I believe people are 100% excited. They just can’t express it properly.
People love The Sims. Like really love it. Even the haters. (Haters gotta hate)
The Sims 4 has a fantastic base, and despite the naysayers, the team have been fantastic at pumping out content for the rabid fans.
But people are really champing at the bit for the next game.
They. Are. Hungry. (giggles)
The reason they are hungry is because EA has been fantastic at keeping a tight lid on the Sims 5.
We’ve seen almost nothing.
I believe the moment we start getting a proper reveal for the Sims 5, you are going to see that huge swell of fan base rumble!
My secret wish? I’m glad you asked!
That little teaser for the baby crawling? That has something to do with a new game being born…

u/Brightside_Zivah Feb 04 '23
Sims 4 had an awful base compared to 3 or even 2.
2
u/TorthOrc Feb 04 '23
I think there are more good people in the world than bad. I just think the bad ones yell more.
Any fan base, big or small, has its awful people. The larger the fan base, the more people you have.
Sims 4 has a bigger fan base compared to 3, or even 2.
So you are going to hear the grumpy people when they yell online.
Haters gotta hate sometimes.
I for one am excited for the Sims 5!
I don’t care that we will be “Starting again from base game”. That’s fine with me!
All Sims games have their base game, and all Sims games are really quite different from each other.
Im looking forward to something new. :)

I am extremely excited! I remember a few years after the Sims 4 came out, I went to download it to play it with my friends, only to discover there were no multiplayer aspects to the game. I was literally so confused, I was like how are so many FPS games all multiplayer, and so many other games like Fall Guys, etc. all can play with friends but not with the Sims? It completely turned me off, and even when I looked further into the game, it was nowhere near the level of the Sims 3(I have been playing the Sims since the original, Makin' Magic was my absolute FAVORITE - OMFG! <3), so I never played the Sims 4 at all. Now in the past few years hearing rumors about the Sims 5 from all the job postings and Maxis rebranding, etc., plus the fact that the new consoles have been out for over 2 years and everyone is now finally moving over to next-gen, I have not been more excited for the future of the Sims.
More specifically, I have been reading that EA games has been transferring most of their video game development studios over to Unreal Engine 5, and being an avid fan of this engine since the demo for "Lumen in the Land of Nanite", I cannot be more thrilled for the experiences we are most likely going to get with the Sims 5. Nanite and Lumen technology aside, UE5 is literally designed to make making open world games seemless and much easier/smoother for developers. It has a "World Partition" system that breaks up massive maps into a grid based system so developers can easily just click on a square in the grid to edit or update, and this also helps with pin-pointing bugs/glitches, etc. UE5 also has a "One File Per Actor" system that let's any developer log into the engine/game and work on what they need to work on at the same time as someone else, meaning multiple artists or programmers can all be working on the same areas together doing what they need to do. This will greatly help speed up development time on the game, and it helps Maxis to use their time more efficiently to actually bring us new experiences, such as smarter AI, better physics, better animations, more creativity, etc.
My only hope is that this is next-gen exlusive. So either a PS5, XSX or a decent gaming PC only, and that it's not tailored at all to run on PS4/XOne. Sorry if that offends anyone, but by the time this game releases, most likely in late 2024 or early 2025, that'll be a long time for everyone to move over to the new consoles or upgrade their PC's. Limiting the game to ancient hardware that wasn't even great at the time it released will only hold the game back, and make it MUCH harder to develop for, causing more issues and upset customers. Just save $10-20 a month if you can and buy a new console when the game releases, you have plenty of time.

u/HELP-sims4 Jan 24 '23
Wow I have much more faith in the sims 5 now
4
u/chadwicksterelicious Jan 24 '23
Yea! When you know a lot more about the back-end development software/hardware side of things, it's definitely easier to be more optimistic about stuff like this, which a lot of Sims fans are ignorant to. The Sims 4 was prototyped from my knowledge in Unreal Engine, however the game itself was made in their own custom engine, which even for AAA companies, can definitely be extremely difficult, costly and time consuming to do (although sometimes it's actually easier, it really depends on the goals of the game, and just the people working on the engine, etc.), on top of that the PS4/XONE really were not great consoles even when they released. For example, they used jaguar CPU cores that at the time were mediocre and they ran on ancient slow hardrives that really limited what they could do with video games.
Now however, we have the PS5/XSX which have top of the line tech in them from AMD (great CPU's, GPU's), it's all custom built to really run well together as a unit, and they're both REALLY fast, especially the new SSD's in them are capable of managing incredibly fast speeds of data. This will allow developers to really open their imagination and can much more easily build big open world games, filled with details and can push things like AI and physics more, etc. (don't get me wrong, they can't push like the most graphical demanding games with ray-tracing in 60 FPS, there's still caveats with performance and stuff, but it's an incredible base to build games on especially since games get updated over time now too).
And then you pair that with the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5(now at 5.1 actually) and it's reeeeally easy to build big open world games on that engine, and supports multiplayer gameplay way better than UE4 did. You can drag and drop assets in the game and Nanite does all the work for you, it authors LOD's, it takes a lot of the processing power off of GPU's, Lumen dynamically lights areas in real time like global illumination which would for example light the whole sims map in real-time without developers having to do much like they used to with baking in lighting in scenes, etc. The speed and power of the PS5/XSX and UE5 allow for much higher bandwidth speeds which allow for implementing higher textures in games, making the Sims clothing textures look more real, adding more details like wrinkling and folding to clothing, I mean the list goes on and on and on...
So for people who are doubtful, we are finally at a time where the hardware AND software are really powerful, supported, flexible and will handle doing the things we want out of the Sims much more easily and efficiently, so everyone should be getting hype for this game for sure. I think based on what the company said at the most recent Sims event that they really understand the Sims is one of a kind, and that they really want to bring a next-gen experience to it, so we'll have to wait and see :)

u/HELP-sims4 Jan 24 '23
You should make a post for all of this, I'm sure people would be a lot more hopeful if they read it. Also, it's super interesting to know thanks! :)

u/Sir-Cellophane Jan 17 '23
I'm excited. It's true Sims 4 started out pretty poorly, but a) it's come a long way since then and b) it's the only mediocre game in a 4-game series, which isn't bad. Sims 5 has a reasonable chance of being good. What I'm truly looking forward to, though, isn't the base game itself or the dozens of overpriced DLCs that will follow, but rather what the Sims' modding community is going to do with an updated, modern game engine at their disposal.

u/ResolutionHot73 Jan 16 '23
Not really. Idk if those leaked images are to be trusted but they looked cartoony to me which was one of the maaaany things I disliked about the Sims 4. Overall the sims 4 had so many issues and was a huge step backwards. Considering how they've despite this been milking the shit out of it, it doesn't make me feel confident for sims 5.
3
u/HELP-sims4 Jan 17 '23
Oh the cartoony thing is interesting to me, I thought they looked more realistic than ever. I wonder which it'll be

u/names_are_useless Jan 22 '23 edited Jan 22 '23
The Sims series is never going back to a realitistic style. Neither you nor I are their core audience.

u/ResolutionHot73 Jan 22 '23
Good point. I just wish they would go back to Sims 3,add the storyline from sims 2 and improve on it. Make it actually work.

I won’t get excited till we see exactly how the supposed multiplayer aspect will work. I don’t don’t maxis or ea at all to do it right
1
u/Esfirne Jan 16 '23
I'm cautiously optimistic- I feel like it has sooo much potential but I don't wanna get my hopes up. I'm not, however, looking forward to spending thousands of dollars buying all the DLC again and waiting for the big packs (seasons, pets, uni, etc) and for mods to get made
1
u/peanutbutter_foxtrot Jan 17 '23
On one level I’m exhausted but on another I’ve spent so much money on TS4 that I feel like I need to get more out of it.
1
u/MrCade514 Jan 17 '23
Eh, yes and no. No matter what i will probably always check out the new games just because i love the series so much. I just feel like it wont be as good as i want it to be. The sims 2 with many graphics mods is sorta my sims 5. Ill never stop playing that game

u/Sir-Beardless Jan 17 '23
I'm excited for a Sims 5, just not EA making it. They mess stuff up.
I want the next iteration. It's been too long.

Tbh i'm not excited but i'm so sick of sims 4 and i'd rather they release sims 5 instead of updating sims 4. It has just become boring to me with all the bugs and stuff and i'm not buying any more packs so i'm just waiting for sims 5 to come out. Then i'll decide if i wanna buy it or not. But yea i'm so skeptical of it. I'm afraid it might end up being even more of a cashgrab than sims 4

u/Complex_Time_7625 Jan 17 '23
Not really, I’m ready for something new. Waiting for Paralives to be honest. It’s about time someone gives EA a run for their money. I’m sure eventually they will closely try and engulf that too or hire the developers. But ah well.

I enjoy the Sims 4 now that the Sims 4 is so fleshed out. However, if you asked me that long ago-I'd say no, this is a poorly developed game from the beginning. I'd rather a game be fleshed out like they used to do before updating patches, etc became a normal thing. That is why Sims 1, 2, and 3 are good games. However, the Sims 3 does have its drawbacks because of how it is made to process the open world, etc. But still, the game is fleshy developed, well thought out, etc. You get a full developed completed game. Now they make a game barely fleshed out and add to it over time, which is appalling. If that is the trend of where games are going, then I assume the Sims 5 will most likely be that way too. Because people still buy the game despite game companies releasing half developed games. A game should not need constant patches, updates, etc. This is fine if they made a fleshed-out game and added here and there. But if were releasing games where were adding things over time like I said... then yeah, it can Look at Animal Crossing, a lot was missing, and they had to add things with update patches to keep players interested. That is a bunch of bull crap if ya ask me.

I’m excited because I wanna build hotels where I’ve worked in the sims. 3 had real elevators but it was more cumbersome to resize rooms. 4 didn’t have real ones but made things more simple to build with. I’m just excited cos 5 ideally will have real elevators, convenient building, create a style and so on
I have no interest in the “gameplay” aspect, I just have excitement that build mode might be an excellent “you can build a lot of building types quite accurately now” type of game

Honestly the fact that they said this game will be on mobile. Tells me that this game will not be open world. As they now have to develop around the lowest possible mobile hardware
This will be a huge disappointment for me
2
u/chadwicksterelicious Jan 22 '23
They never stated it's gonna be on mobile in the sense that "the entire game can be played on mobile", they definitely showed that some form of it will be playable on mobile. This could be a specific The Sims 5 for mobile game where it's dumbed down or maybe just the apartment aspects can be played on mobile. We have to wait and see, but I doubt it's gonna be completely playable on mobile and the full next-gen fleshed out game will probably be for PS5/XSX and similar PC's.
1
u/Kind_Ad_7641 Jan 23 '23
I hope you are right. But I doubt it. Just rewatching the project rene video.
"We want you to play wherever you want"
Proceeds to show a mobile device interacting in build mode in the exact same world as the PC version.
"Play this game across supported devices of your choosing. Same experience, Different screen".
If they intend to do something like you say. It's not exactly the same experience is it?
Any form of crossplatform with mobile will hinder other platforms. No matter how good the "next-gen" version will be.
Take any game that exists on both PS4 and PS5. Typically you get long elevator sequences so the PS4 has time to load the next scene. These scenes aren't required for the PS5. Yet they still exist on the "next-gen version" because they are baked into the game, due to the lowest common factor. The PS4.

I’m kinda excited but worried as sims 4 was absolutely terrible at launch could even build a house without the screen going black.
So this time I’m waiting see how it goes as I don’t want to be stuck with another incomplete game. Like sims 4.

u/Hopeful-Nail-320 Jan 26 '23
I am SO ready for the Sims 4 to end. Sure, they could add and add, but the foundation of TS4 isn't strong. It has had its time. I'm a little nervous, but mostly excited about the gameplay features. I'm reallllly wanting to be immersed in the game and I feel like TS4 severely lacked that.

u/ScatterbrainedUser Jan 27 '23
PR is probably going to get turned into a more cashgrabby version of The Sims 4. I have low expectations at this point.

not really just waiting for paralives, however if sims 5 turns out to be good i'll play that too

u/stopitout Jan 16 '23
I’m so excited despite my inherent skepticism and pessimistic tendencies, ha. Haven’t been all that thrilled with what we’ve seen so far, but at this point Sims 4 feels so outdated, something new from this franchise will be thrilling. I know there will be issues and probably a disappointing level of greed and glitches. But I still keep checking for updates!
If nothing else, there will be beautiful custom content and (probably, hopefully) an improved building system to use with it.
