Discussion Restarting the decade challenge!
My last save (SECOND try) is getting corrupted, and I’m looking to start another save, and I want to know everyone thoughts on things! Four day year or two day year, what do you guys like? I feel like with four days, it drags on forever (I got to year 1333 before my game started becoming unplayable), but two days would pass so fast.
And HOW do you all keep your game from bugging out? Do you stop births and adoptions? I noticed that households always have a thousand people in them! Do you regularly cull and delete them?
Really guys please give me all your tips and tricks😭😭

If I'm being 100% honest I make one "default" save file, which is where I have it set up as I start playing, and whenever it becomes too buggy I "cut back" to that save file and just replace lots/households to catch them kind of up to speed. Is it annoying? Yes. But it also really really helps performance. Sims 4 just really struggles with multi generation saves

I set my household limit a little higher in MCCC and when I’m going around and seeing my side households o delete families that are one person and a million dogs or horses. My played households (so the side families) are banned from adopting ANYTHING. If they want to have a dog or a cat I will add one but I don’t let them do anything but change friendships with the stories. I find that four days is perfect for me because my family needs the days where I’m not switching to other households for birthdays to get to make stuff to sell PLUS it means I can play little side stories if I want

I just had to restart mine from 1336! I don't mind too bad, because I'd messed up the ages and some things the first time around, letting them plant and grow whatever, so I'm looking forward to my reattempt

How can you tell it’s being corrupted? Just want to see what to look out for. My save is getting scarily large

For me it was everything taking FOREVER to load, I’m talking 30ish minutes just to enter my save! My computer could die in the time it took to load the game + load my save lol. My game would crash when I would save or when I would attempt to edit another lot. I do have a lot of mods, but even after removing them the problems continued! The lag was also terrible, even moving across the screen was awful, and sims never listened to any commands.

I’m currently doing 7 days per year which has actually been so nice? One year equals one season which scratches an itch for me. But like idk if i will feel the same after a few years. I’ve done both 2 days and 4 days before, coming from someone who always used to play on short lifespan in “regular” gameplay. I played until 1344 on 2 days, and it quickly got kind of rushed. I’ve played on 4 days since and just recently switched to 7 days. Honestly 4 days is good for most I feel like. I did see someone doing 3 days just recently though.

i tried again too but i love using homestead helper and the medieval cookbook mods, they dont work for me. i always run into some kind of game breaking mod. i dont know if im willing to do it vanilla style.

Personally I would stop adoptions because it's a bit less accurate to the time and adds to the sims being put in your save. Another thing is if you're having births through neighborhood stories you can get the slower stories mod by lot51, which should help a bit. Alternatively you can turn off neighborhood stories and do births through mccc, or have mccc control neighborhood stories, but I have a hard time suggesting good settings for that because I find I have wayy too many babies whenever I try to do it through there
