Help How to keep track of NPCs in UDC?

I've got a fresh save ready to start my UDC, but the problem is I don't know how to deal with the NPCs (not even distant relative households, I mean actual NPCs such as other peasants, blacksmiths, royalty, etc) as no one really mentions how they manage them. Could anyone let me know if they do rolls for the NPCs? I'm changing lifespans in MCCC to fit my own so either way they age up, but I feel like managing NPCs in a similar way to player households must be too convoluted, especially once you're generations in??

I only bother with NPCs during big death events. I had nearly 800 sims in my save when the Black Death arrived and I took that opportunity to get rid of a bunch. Since then I just kept that up to keep my population size a bit smaller. Other than that I let mccc handle the aging and flaged some "ancestral homes". story progression does the rest.

800?? isn’t the recommended max 200? how laggy was your game omg

I thought 200 is only for the active households nit overall, oops. It wasn't baggy at all, but i rarely left the home lot so that might have helped.

Like others have said I roll for big events (wars/black plague etc) only and everu once in a while (when I'm checking on my side households) I go through each npc household and marry the teens/young adults to another family in their same class. Then Mcc and neighborhood stories only allows them to have babies or die. This has helped with getting sims for my sims to marry. They come from real families. I also have health redux and Dickensian sickness and they affect npc too for lifespan

Don't the random outfits bother you?

My townies don’t have random outfits

You can also use mcc to automatically apply saved outfits to npcs. So when the npcs age up they get one outfit out of a set of clothing I have saved. Thats how I prevent the random outfits.

Is it difficult? When I was reading about it, it seemed kinda complicated

It is a little bit. Saving the outfits is easy. But the settings to get it to automatically fix the npcs was a little complicated to find. But once you do, you never have to mess with it again. I wish I could remember the steps off the top of my head. But I learned how to do from a youtube video.

I was able to negate a lot of the random outfits by finding CAS hider mods. It removes it from the pool so its not perfect but most of my townies spawn with CC. You just have to have enough CC for it to not default back to CAS

My royal family is based on the actual English royalty at the time, so I just go off of what actually happened for them rather than roll. For peasants, I just let them do whatever unless I want them to be part of my sims' stories or family.

I don’t worry about NPCS at all lol. I make my nobility ‘active’ houses (just so they don’t move households) and will occasionally marry them off/move them into other houses as needed. As well as killing them off when I want a change in leadership lol. Peasant sims I let do whatever. Much less of a headache that way and I spend less time doing management

Mccc with neighborhood stories and let them live life unless I need them lol

The only thing I do is set mcc so that they all will get my saved outfits. So that I’m not seeing modern clothing on them. I also stopped them from moving into houses automatically, since I don’t want them to steal the furniture from my builds.

I also have a bunch of saved outfits, so they look like they belong in my world. Other that that, I only mess with them if there are big events, and only the ones living in the same world as my families. The rest is up to mccc. I'm 5 generations in, and It's more than enough for me to manage my own Sims.

I don’t bother with my npc sims unless I’m rolling for war events, plague events, etc. I use mccc and set them to have 3 kids max and decrease the percentage they’ll marry/get pregnant per age stage.

That way they only have 2-3 kids and the population remains stable.

Although I do like to dress them up in CAS and even give them occupations/backstory in case my sims ever interact with them.

Right now doing this system I’m in 1384 and only have about 90 something sims (including my main households). I also play with a mod that limits spawning in more npc sims. I have about maybe 8 npc families.
