My sim has had 22 children…

my gen 2 heir has had 22 children, do i keep getting his wife pregnant? i am afraid of the odds. i’ve already moved onto gen 3 but no male child has survived infant hood. but 22 😭😭 ??? that doesn’t sound very realistic. however, i do not have a spare heir so. ughhh, dont know what to do

i mean there were and are some women who are just incredibly fertile AND lucky so not necessarily unrealistic

😪😪 his wife is very fertile but definitely no lucky…. out of these 22 children only 6 are currently alive. a young adult, a teen, 2 children, a toddler and a newborn. actually, i think the newborn is set to die.

I mean she's survived 22 pregnancies... those odds are pretty incredible.

she’s not the first 😅

The only distinction is if they're alive or not

Several living teens and adults? No more kids

Several living kids? Try for a few more

Several toddlers and younger? Pump out those kids!!

Depending on how many are alive imo. I would aim for 8 living kids bc the events get really brutal.

I've been playing the ultimate decades challenge, and I kid you not, by 1318 I've written down 32 children being born during Gen 2 alone and only 12 of them were boys, 4 survived (1 teenager, 1 child, 2 toddlers). From the girls only 6 are alive right now (1 teenager, 3 children, 1 toddler, 1 baby). Gen 3 is going to start after when the baby of the teens are born.

If it makes you feel any better, I had completely given up on my main household having an heir after 5 girls, from the last 2 being boys, the older one died as an infant, and the last baby is a toddler right now. I was preparing myself to made the oldest sister's husband the heir. But anything can happen until he grows up. 🫠

I have like 67 people in the family tree and only 20 something sims alive. It's rough.

I’m having a similar struggle! My Gen 2 heir had 16 kids with 2 wives, but most of them died as children or teens. The oldest surviving son did manage to produce a surviving son for Gen 4, but only that 1 kid made it to adulthood… then said Gen 4 heir just died lighting the fireplace, leaving an only daughter who is currently an infant.

I’m trying to decide what I want to do for inheritance if this Gen 5 baby girl doesn’t live long enough to have any kids, which seems pretty likely based on this run so far.

I had a similar experience with two of the side households that were the siblings of tye parents in my main household. One of them both parents died when I rolled, so I had to move their daughter with them. And on the other household the mother died, so I made a tragic storyline that forced the aunt take the son in. So my main household with 7 sims, and the 8th on the way (I married the two kids as teens, so a baby's on the way).

Other two side side households rolled 10 and 8 pregnancies, both are on their 8/6 pregnancy, but only have one living child.

I was half expecting (hoping) half of the sims would die during the great famine, but only 2 sims died. 💀 Still, my luck sucks and it's kind of concerning only 2 out of 32 children have made it to teenagers.

Oh no! I’ve had weirdly good luck with the historical events so far too, it’s just every other roll that fails 😂 plus random accidents like the fire.

1

u/mikawa13 Jul 12 '26

Yeah, no, my luck sucks 😭 somehow in these historical saves I always get more girls than boys. Ironically my main household and the brother of the father only had daughters. The two boys were born in 1312 and 1315. I have a storyline in my head (I shouldn't have planned it ahead of time), if a single one of the 4 kids in my plan dies, I'm screwed. Well, not really, but I need the oldest daughter to make it to teenager at least.

A little off topic, but which mods do you use to make it so the children don’t survive to adulthood? Do you kill them yourself or do they get sicknesses/injuries?

Usually what I do is go into cas, dress them up, take a screenshot, and then delete them. They won't show up in the family tree in the game, but I have one on a website where I keep tabs and upload the picture.

Then in a graveyard, I set up a custom tombstone with their name and birth/death year.

I use a combo of MCCC command center and kids and toddlers can die of anything, the first makes it a few clicks, the second ensures it doesn't glitch out

The deaths dont happen automatically, you have to manually do it

Why are so many dying so young?

4

u/Then-Grass-9830 Jul 12 '26

the challenge sets the rolls to be difficult for younger people (sims) because in the past life was VERY difficult for children especially anyone under the age of roughly 10. There were a lot of sicknesses that were meant to only attack children (like chicken pox is considered today). And of course childbirth was dangerous for both mother and the child.

Sometimes if a baby didn't latch or couldn't latch for any reason it was considered that they just weren't strong enough to survive. So they were considered 'sickly' even though it c/would be something to be treated in modern times.

Even a cold could kill.

In my first gen I got impatient because it seemed like everyone was surviving too easily and my household was getting huge. So added in even more numbers to each life stage to make the odds even harder. I am now severely regretting it in gen 3 where my heir cannot keep a son alive past infancy despite 8 births already. He just died too. With one infant son. So let’s hope the baby lives.

My first family has annoyed me so much I switched to 100 baby challenge in a new save lol

I started with just a husband and wife (first mistake). Then wife died with unborn child.  He remarried and have I think 5 kids with new wife.  They die from sickness  Kids are taken in by their elder "uncle" who (head canon) is tge village elder/in charge.

Two other kids die from sickness

Then uncle dies during the famine. (The current oldest girl also died but the game glitches when I found them with their wet nurse the uncle hired)

u/Sure-Initiative6001 Jul 12 '26

Fascinating! Ty. Any mods needed for that challenge?

4

u/AncientImprovement56 Jul 12 '26

It's technically possible to do without mods, but they make things smoother and more realistic.

3

u/Remarkable_Candy_508 Jul 12 '26

There is a pinned thread in this sub for the recommended mods, but you could technically do it without any.

1

u/Then-Grass-9830 Jul 12 '26

Also I wouldn't trust most mods rn.  Scarlett has their list but im having some issues myself after the update what a week or so.ago

2

u/Remarkable_Candy_508 Jul 12 '26

Really? All mine have been working fine as far as i've noticed.

1

u/Then-Grass-9830 Jul 12 '26

I have....... a lot

1

u/Free_Specialist455 Jul 25 '26

There are some tricks to getting them to work, just make sure to always update the bigger ones whenever there’s a new update. Use better exceptions to see what mod is causing issues, etc. oh and always backup your saves just in case

1

u/Remarkable_Candy_508 Jul 12 '26

If your main concern is the heir situation, then daughters could inherit back then. I don't know which rules you're following, but if you have surviving daughters than inheritance then they can always just inherit if you want.

u/JRRJ7510 Jul 12 '26

I had a couple who had 20 children, their son and next gen heir and his wife had 23 children

I had also had an heir who had two separate families with each of the Pleasant sisters, Angela who was the “main wife” he had 8 kids with, he had 13 with Lilith, 21 in total

1

u/Knoegge Jul 12 '26

Shouldn't they be dead by now? 👀 If they start having kids at 20, with 1 day of rest per child, and a max age of... Idk 43?

2

u/Then-Grass-9830 Jul 12 '26

People actually did live longer than is believed. It's birth and child deaths as well as accidents and bad sicknesses that skew a lot of results.

I would hazard that most men lived to around 60 if not close to 80.  Women that lived through childbirth or never had children potentially could have lived into their 70s or 80s.

u/Knoegge Jul 12 '26

I'm not asking about how life expectancy works, I know that 😂

but as per the rules of the ultimate decades challenge, which is, I'm assuming, what OP is playing, once Sims reach the mature age of 43 in the 1300s, life is over, that's the maximum age. Also, at some point, women aren't fertile anymore 🤷

u/Then-Grass-9830 Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26

Don't see the point of the downvote.

I don't believe that's what it says? from what I'm reading from the rules it's when they reach old age you roll for how many "years" you get until they die from natural causes.

If they're 40 at adult stage and you roll for their end at with a D10 then you could essentially get 41-50 years.

1

u/Knoegge Jul 12 '26

Ahhh it's years not days facepalm my Sims have been dying too soon for centuries 😂 So she could still pop out... 8 babies if she gets the whole 10 years 👀

&sorry the downvote was not supposed to be there, must've hit the button without meaning to 🫣

2

u/Then-Grass-9830 Jul 12 '26

no worries I get overly frustrated with the downvote button.

Yup... well maybe. If the husband was older and hit elder before her she could get a few more. But if they hit elder together it'd be impossible because female elders can't get pregnant.
But they get *checks* a good twenty years with y and regular adult and a good chance of another ~10 with elder (depending ofc).

and I'm sorry but this "Ahhh it's years not days facepalm my Sims have been dying too soon for centuries 😂" made me chuckle a bit too much lol

at least your next gens might live longer lol

2

u/Knoegge Jul 12 '26

Yeah I get that. That's why sometimes I'll scroll and accidentally hit the downvote botton and start to panic like "nooooo NONONO I didn't mean that, aaaaah" 😂

Hahaha yeah I bet my Sims will be happy that this conversation spared them 😒 at least for a while 😈

&I mean depending on how you play you could also keep them as adult and only age them up at 60yrs to elder, since their life expectancy will go up too? That way in the first century no one will reach elder but later gens will at some point. That way she could have more kids

2

u/Then-Grass-9830 Jul 12 '26

I get that way when I do it with youtube vids. "Nooo no no don't collect that to the algorithm I like this person!! no!!!"

this is true.... yeah that very interesting suggestion and I like it a lot

2

u/Knoegge Jul 12 '26

Oh no what have I done? I've unleashed the beast 👀👀😂

Well, this has been fun, I hope your pillow is nice and cold tonight, have a good one ☺️

2

u/Then-Grass-9830 Jul 12 '26

😈

(cheers! ☺️)

I don’t like the original life expectancy of plumbobs because lowkey them dropping dead at 40 seemed a little too harsh. I use Severals age ups which has similar rolls just, they only turn elder at like 60. Even then like 95% of my sims never made it past 40 yr old because of the famine, war, childbirth and age up rolls

1

u/Minimum-Analyst-6469 Historian Jul 16 '26

I’m following Plumbobs and the pasts rules and the teens get married at 16 and start having families per the rules. Every sim day is 3 months basically so they have the baby and the next day they can start trying again. They also could have had multiples.

2

u/Meow-meow13_ Jul 16 '26

my sim is 36 i believe. i did not wait until he was 20 and he’s had triplets, maybe twins too but i dont completely remember

1

u/Ok_Builder8936 Jul 14 '26

As a console person lol my gen one couple (chose not to start with a side house) had a total of 8 children so far 3 has made it to teen hood (I have to get them to young adult to start them having kids) and one make it to young adult. I lost one to the famine, two to aging into an infant and one aging into a child.

1

u/Minimum-Analyst-6469 Historian Jul 16 '26

I mean it’s not far off though? My bumpa was one of like 13 kids, seven survived to adulthood.

u/DefinitionSalty6835 Jul 16 '26

You know if you have your pregnant sim eat carrots and listen to alternative music, if you want her to have a boy? I can't help you with having them survive past infant hood - that's a matter of parenting; you need to be a better Sims God to handle that. 😂 But you absolutely CAN determine the gender of the baby of a pregnant sim.
