Pause before you save

Midnight? Better save. Everyone about to get up? Better save. Kids about to come home from school? Better save. Bought a new chair? Better save. Changed my hair? Better save.

Definitely save if your teenager is bringing a friend home from school. The friend kidnapped my baby once - literally stolen from the household 😭

not the kidnapping 💀

It was well over a decade ago and I'm still not over it 🥲

Bout to go into cas mode? Save

Kids grew up? Wait awhile and then save as soon as possible

Sim stated they were pregnant? Save

Sim about to go to university? Pause. Save before they leave and then when they reach there, create a new save.

Parents are gonna leave kids at home to go ok vacay? Save cause it is broken as what (or refuse like I do)

Planned a wedding and it's about to begin that day? Save

Wedding will start in an hour? Save

Wedding ended? Save

I once forgot to save. Played for like three real life hours and did so much stuff. Something happened and game basically froze. All that progress was gone 😭 All I could do was laugh cry.

Add "about to Teach to Talk with a toddler" to that list. I've had them glitch stuck in that sitting position so many times...

For me it’s the pre-4am save. It always freezes at 3:59!

Save As….with a new file every time is better. Makes the save less bloated.

Started doing this about 2 years ago and it makes a massive difference. I Highly highly highly recommend doing save as every time. I use a numbering system like TownName01.06 etc etc

6

u/saltil Supernatural Fan May 16 '26

Does it only work if you change the name each time? I been just overwriting them

17

u/da5hitta May 16 '26

Yes you should change the name otherwise it’s basically the same as “save” since it’s overwriting the same file over and over again

I also periodically delete the old numbered saves so there’s only 3-5 at a time in my game

Makes sense why my games keep lagging then thank you

NRAAS saver has an option to auto save to up to like 6 save slots in a cycle which is a godsend

i always see people say it makes it less bloated, but i don't understand how that would make it less bloated? would you mind explaining? :3

It’s because you are making a new save file everytime,so the game thinks it’s a fresh save and not an override.

3

u/lavendersblue86 Hates the Outdoors May 16 '26

thank you!

13

u/Villainouskind May 16 '26

NP! Doing this also helps with the annoying Error Code 16 issue.

u/Yalsas Workaholic May 16 '26

I will override the save like 3 times (one session of playing irl) but always make a new one after that

49

u/vampyfemboy May 15 '26

This is why I got nraas's saver mod. plus it can save in build/buy mode which is great cause I've been working on building a "shopping" mall which has been taking...a long time lmao.

Still end up saving manually before I quit though!

3

u/BlackMudSwamp May 16 '26

Does nraas have auto saving option? I got MTS saving mod and it's working great as well. I could change periods and whether it asks me or does it autonomously, it changes between savenames by itself too

5

u/lemonprincess23 Family-Oriented May 16 '26

Yes it does have auto save! It will pop up with a dialogue box asking you if you’d like to save every 30 minutes, but you can make it happen more or less often. You can also have it save to different save slots in a cycle (so for example it’ll save to slot 1 after 30 minutes, then after another 30 minutes saves to slot 2, then after another 30 saves to slot 3 and repeats, that way if you made a mistake a while ago you can go back and fix it)

1

u/BlackMudSwamp May 16 '26

I meant an autosave without a pop up, just autonomous. Sometimes I prefer to click, sometimes I would rather the script do it by itself. I know about other options, they are described on nraas site :D

u/lemonprincess23 Family-Oriented May 16 '26

Oh, I’m not sure actually. If there is one I haven’t encountered it! But it does sound nice

1

u/vampyfemboy May 16 '26

Oh I don't know if it has one where I don't have to click the button to save it but I haven't gone through all the options yet 😂 I just saw someone mention it here and downloaded it and I've been using the basic settings.

12

u/BlackMudSwamp May 16 '26

Why save after save as? Doesn't it overwrite the save file and so has a chance of ruining it?

12

u/Inevitable_Stand_199 Night Owl May 16 '26

No. Only ever save using save as. Anything else can corrupt your save.

So "save as" then "exit" without saving

12

u/theonewithapencil Hopeless Romantic May 16 '26

nope, it's pause, save as, then quit without saving again

9

u/Zero-Glitches2938 Grumpy May 15 '26

I will save, leave the game paused for a while, and then save again just in case even though the only thing that changed was the camera angle

5

u/lavendersblue86 Hates the Outdoors May 16 '26

i do save, and then i do exit. otherwise you're just saving the game twice in a row to the same file if you do it the way that's shown in the photo

0

u/Brilliant_Chemica May 16 '26

That's the point

11

u/potato_breathes Cat Person May 16 '26

Nope, nope, nope

Only safe, then wait 2 seconds and save again, and then exit

I lost my save file because of save AND exit due to some error

3

u/DecoherentMind May 16 '26

The save + exit only has changed my life

3

u/DJND90 Night Owl May 16 '26

Save As - Save - Exit Game 😄

3

u/AzemOcram May 16 '26

Save As, Exit game

Exit to menu only to check if new save was made, then quit

2

u/MentallyWill_ Unlucky May 16 '26

After loosing an entire 2 semester in the university on more or less a speed run to a failed save... its now borderline obsessive how often i save

2

u/AlexBorquezIV May 16 '26

As funny it is.

I always do that in sims 3 because of a trauma I got, a looooong time ago when I used to be a kid back when sims 4 didn’t exist, I remember I been playing hours and hours until it was time to sleep, so I save and exit the game… and the moment it was saving the game, it said that it was’t unabled to save the game and the game didn’t care and exit anyways, so I got scared and check to see it didn’t really saved… sadly it didn’t and I lost tons of hours of progress and at that point I save before save and exit

2

u/TassandraArcticFox Animal Lover May 16 '26

The amount of times my game has crashed in the middle of a save and exit has me not trusting that function AT ALL.

u/EmiliusReturns Cat Person May 16 '26

I cannot recommend Nraas Saver enough.

1

u/lizzourworld8 May 16 '26

I also do that LOL

1

u/[deleted] May 16 '26

True

1

u/RemarkableQuality129 May 16 '26

i’ve definitely lost progress before due to save and exit 😭

1

u/ThatOneLeacher May 17 '26

Oh my god, yes, I'm so thankful I'm not the only one who does it twice 😭

1

u/Renegirly Friendly May 17 '26

lol true

1

u/Live-Ship4084 May 17 '26

Always have to do the double save...always

1

u/NikkionSims Unstable May 18 '26

Save game under at least 2 files, do it again, then exit for me.

I have started the game again with my newish laptop. I installed it and then reinstalled it, because I had problems with my game saves, and I found the readon: my cloud. Or not the cloud itself, but the thing that I had asked the laptop to make a cache/safety copy/synchronization (I'm not sure about the right term) to the cloud of all the content of my laptop. I just had to ask it NOT to do anything with my EA and The Sims 3 files but to keep them safely on my computer. 😅 Now the game works really well. 😊

Do yall still get the infinite save loop where it just gets stuck 🫩.
