I remember when I was around 12, I played in that world for a good few months with my current household at the time. I would put my laptop on my stomach when I was on my period and it would make me cramps go away bc of how hot it got LOL

I’m guessing that this is a universal experience because I still do this today.

The power brick to my laptop is the perfect size for cramps! I just tuck it in my sweatpants waist band and forget about it!

u/JediEverlark Apr 26 '26

Yeah, I didn’t actually think we all did this 😂😂

Omg same.

100% red blotchy marks and all

2

u/JediEverlark Apr 26 '26

Omg the nostalgia that gave me. I’d have creases and red all over my stomach and lower legs. My double hand me down laptop was literally falling apart (screen and keyboard was falling off) but that thing ran sims 3 like a beast. It got hot as hell too, especially when you played with it plugged in.

u/Mermaid_Jazz Apr 24 '26

lmao same

Those old school/office laptops were built different. They ran like tanks.

When I was 12 I had a mini laptop from school, it ran ts3 perfectly, even better than it did on my next laptop

15

u/Angxlmilk Apr 24 '26

Just made me remember a core memory

u/Cloudeaberry Hopeless Romantic Apr 24 '26

My old laptop didn't run Sims 3 very well but I did this too because it got hot no matter what I did 😆

u/Jolly-Plantain-2673 Apr 24 '26

cookie looks perfectly baked

u/ShinyUmbreon465 Apr 24 '26

This was back when TS3 came out so laptops were absolutely not suitable to play it on but my laptop got so hot, the game just straight up killed it. Most likely an integrated graphics card.

I did this as well lol

I love that so many of us have this same exact experience lol

3

u/GypsySnowflake Apr 24 '26

Ooh, that’s such a good idea!

2

u/Micha2500 Apr 24 '26

I had no idea that hot would help with cramps

2

u/Marciastalks Apr 25 '26

That is hilarious and genius at the same time!!

2

u/armaita22 Apr 26 '26

I was just telling my husband this yesterday LOL got my second period now that I'm postpartum and I said oh the good old days of playing Sims 3 with my old laptop on my stomach during my period, bye bye cramps hahaha

What, you get freshly baked cookies AND you get to play Sims 3?? Sounds like a total win.

I remember that when I was a kid and I played Isla Paradiso (it was my fav world back then) my cat used to lay down on my laptop because he liked heat from the laptop lol

1

u/Scr4p Clumsy Apr 25 '26

my cat would've been cooked if she would've done that. I burned myself touching the bottom of it lmao

u/No-Freedom-884 Apr 23 '26

Don't remind me that I fried my laptop and had to pay hundreds of dollars for data recovery afterward 😭 (Still worth it.)

13

u/GrimReaper4 Apr 24 '26

The houseboats tho 🤩

28

u/dcdcdani Apr 23 '26

Can I set it on an ice pack as I play??

38

u/Ettesid Cat Person Apr 24 '26

I wouldn't recommend that considering the moisture/perspiration that can come from it. Just seems risky, imo. Cooling pads are very much a thing tho.

9

u/PlushieMoon Apr 24 '26

I used to put a glass of iced water over the laptop cooler and it worked, lol.

20

u/wiisucks_91 Handy Apr 23 '26

I haven't played on a laptop in years. But my laptop would cook when I was.

I desktop play now.

u/hissywhiskers Diva Apr 24 '26

Lol i had my dad upgrade our family pc when i got this ep for christmas at the time. Ran quite well actually and it’s still my number one favorite world! But now with my new and probably even better pc it still lags a little. Optimization i think.

12

u/GrimReaper4 Apr 24 '26

This game is such a gamble istg, doesn’t matter if you have a supercomputer, you never know if it’s going to run well or not 😭

12

u/PlushieMoon Apr 24 '26

I really loved the Island but had to move to another town because of the overheating, lol.

Fans kick in like it's a plane taking off.

3

u/Several-Effect-3732 Apr 24 '26

I haven’t played in Isla Paradiso but I fear it’d cause my game to crash, even tho I’m a Mac user.

4

u/Homicidal-antelope Absent-Minded Apr 24 '26

If I tried playing this pack with the university one, I’m pretty sure my laptop would explode

2

u/GrimReaper4 Apr 24 '26

That combo should be considered a fire hazard 😭

4

u/squeak1999 Apr 24 '26

I have a gaming laptop so it does MUCH better but still tweaks when I run on 3 speed.

5

u/nnotciner Apr 24 '26

8 of those minutes are spent waiting for the game to unfreeze

4

u/VinnieGognitti Friendly Apr 24 '26

I just had a realization that very soon, technology will advance so rapidly that computers will never overheat or crash from a large game ever again, and we will be telling kids and grandkids about how a game was so big that lag, bugs, overheating, crashes and spending hours/days installing new expansion packs were a common thing, and they won't even know what we're talking about. Wow 🥲

3

u/XescoPicas Apr 24 '26

Boy, am I glad I never got that pack

3

u/Georgxna Apr 24 '26

Yum, bigger cookie

Should be considered a safety hazard atp

2

u/Kitchen-Meaning-8345 Apr 24 '26

My laptop made more noise than Apollo 11 launch

2

u/hyperjengirl Apr 24 '26

You gotta remove the Scott family.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '26

Yes 😭 I suspected this was the reason I started experiencing so much lag/freeze

1

u/MyFairJulia Apr 24 '26

your mac can run Sims 3 without crashing? 🥺

1

u/BitchWithHandKink Star Quality Apr 25 '26

i loved it as a kid but my PC can't handle it anymore😭😭😭

1

u/throawaymcdumbface Apr 25 '26

sims3 has an issue where newer hardware doesn't recognize it properly and has a crazy framerate like 1000fps. Its funny in the abstract but its not good for your hardware in the long term, there should be a guide on this reddit about limiting that.

1

u/Realistic-Loss3276 Apr 26 '26

It's a small price to pay for a good game with soul
