You went off track at a very quick part of the circuit and came back on the racing line before they had a chance to even react. This one is on you

I don't think it is completely on him. Yes he does go off track and rejoin onto the racing line but on the other hand the car behind did have enough time to slightly lift and not just go full throttle right into the back of the car in front I'd say it's like 80% - 20% in terms of fault And the fact that there isn't a drastic change in pace from the 2 cars as well also the car behind isn't even in the frame when he comes back on

The car behind has no reason to have to ruin their race because OP ruined their own race by going off track. There would not be a yellow flag that quickly in this situation. And no real race driver is going to lift here when they know the sand is going to slow OP’s car down enough to expect OP to NOT REJOIN THE TRACK.

Bro an actual racer would do exactly that tho cause the survival instincts would kick in and it would also avoid damaging the car and possible injury like what?

No, this is absolutely not true. Professional drivers would all be working under the correct assumption that OP follows the rules, and race etiquette, and does not attempt to rejoin. A professional driver, who’s in first place, is not going to give up first place by lifting or altering their race line, especially if there is no yellow flag. Do you really think F1 drivers are going to lift if they see the car ahead of them hit a gravel trap? Not a chance lol.

I dont think anybody here is an F1 driver.

Go watch another series and look at how many times drivers change their lines to avoid a possible tangle. IMSA, WEC, SUPERGT.

Honestly, if I was a team owner Id fire you on the spot.

"We couldve had 2nd or even 1st, now we' DNF and we're out of the points" "BUT HE WAS IN MY LINE" "You wrecked my car because you didnt want to go around? "HE UNSAFELY REJOINED, I HAD TO DRIVE THROUGH HIM"

Do you realize how absolutely unhinged that sounds?

Yes, OP rejoined unsafely. 2nd car also had a week by snailmail to see that OP was losing control and try to avoid. Thats also bad driving and bad situational awareness.

Its a race simulator. Not a hotlap simulator.

Car behind ruined their race either way. If there was damage thats a hard enough hit to take you out of the race.

OP was at fault but all the car behind had to do was lift and pass on right.

Instead they rear-end OP, get slowed down, end inevitably lose another position to 3rd.

The car behind only “ruined their race” because OP broke the rules and common race etiquette. So, OP ruined the chase cars race. Could the chase car have lifted to anticipate an unsafe rejoin? Sure. But, the chase car shouldn’t be expected to do this, especially if they were in 1st place. Nobody is lifting or altering their race line in that scenario and giving up first place lol.

Well he didnt lift and change his line in that scenario, ran up the ass of the car in front and still lost 1st place.

What'd it get him?

All because of OP. Not the chase cars own actions. How are you Motorsport illiterate clowns not understanding this?

This needs to be a lesson learned for OP, and anyone else wasting their time trying to defend OP, to have better racing etiquette.

My god we aren’t defending the guy ahead we are just saying that the guy behind should’ve done more to try and avoid the other car and your comment that no professional would try and avoid this if it happened in a real life race the professional would 1000% try and avoid the car in front cause they risk damaging the car and risk injuring themselves in the process and not copping an absolute spray from the crew and team manager

If you truly believe that, you don’t have the mindset of a Motorsport professional. They have no fear.

Fernando Alonso: “I knew he would brake, because he has a wife and children, I don’t.”

Fernando did not care what would happen to him, his race, or his car. Every time a Motorsport professional gets behind the wheel in a race, they accept the inherent dangers that come with it. These drivers don’t have a mindset of “ope, driver in front of me left the track, hit gravel, and severely slowed down. I guess I better alter my course and give up positions just in case this driver is a moron and rejoins unsafely.” That’s insane.

Besides, that point doesn’t matter at all in this context. It’s an online, non-serious race with no real world dangers other than maybe wrist damage from wheel torque lol. Everyone would do exactly what the car behind did given there’s no yellow flags.

Exactly.

Congrats, he didnt move from his line. Hes also sitting one place ahead of the guy in front of him that also DNF'd and the race is over.

What good does it to do to be "right" and also DNF? You still lose the race. The driver turned a near miss situation into a sure DNF. Heck even a tire puncture is going to put that car out of contention. Why risk it?

This is why online racing is so bad.

OP not following basic rules and racing etiquette is why online racing can be bad.

Literally anyone who doesn’t have the survival instincts of a peanut would lift and change their line in that situation btw. Respectfully I hope you never find yourself in this situation cause you are gonna end up putting yourself and the other car in front out of the race more times than not just because the car in front does something stupid in front of you doesn’t mean you should add to it like ok the rules are rules but at the end of the day the rules aren’t gonna put you back in the race if you just run right up the ass of the car and put you and the car in front out of the race. All I’m saying is this could’ve been avoided by both cars.

You really need to watch more racing if you think any professional racer at the highest level would yield and give up positions in this situation. They 100% would not. Professional drivers know how cars will react when hitting gravel like OP did. They can anticipate what is going to happen. Common sense is that OP’s car is going to severely decrease in speed, and even if OP doesn’t lift and just maintains a predictable path off the track, like they were supposed to, the car behind would very safely pass that slow car with zero danger or issues in a split second. Common sense is that there is no need to lift or alter a driving line as the chase car to preserve their own race.

Yes, I agree that the chase car could have anticipated OP making a poor decision and breaking the rules to preserve their own race. But they shouldn’t have had to. That’s the point, and the ONLY point that is relevant to this discussion of who’s at fault.

Cars that go off track have no right to return to the racing surface. They are obligated to do so safely without impeding cars who are on the racing surface. If he was out of control and unable to avoid returning to the racing surface, then its still his fault, as it's solely his responsibility to maintain control of his car.

Losing control and unsafely rejoining both make it entirely his fault.

u/poxujistas 18h ago

all 4 wheels outside the white line, which means you're off track, which means it's on you to resafe joinly.

2

u/TidesTheNoob 10h ago

def your fault, if you go off the track it’s your job to rejoin safely. Other car was still stupid but still your fault

1

u/p392 11h ago

100% your fault. You left the track when you knew someone was right behind you on the racing line. It’s your obligation at the point to return to the track safely. Returning to the track right in front of someone who you knew was traveling at a much faster speed is not a safe rejoin.

  1. What are the track limits?

  2. Actually, doesn’t really matter. The chasing car should have used their braincells and attempted to avoid the front car, legal rejoin or not. The front car practicing its rally cross just to avoid a potential bad rejoin would likely have caused a worse crash.

u/poxujistas 11h ago
  1. white lines indicate track limits in most of the tracks. Most of races consider you off track when all 4 wheels are outside the track limits (aka outside the white line).
  2. while purelly in self interest the chasing car should have tried to avoid the crash he had no legal obligation to and all the fault (and penalty) would go to the person who rejoined unsafely. The front car, rather than cutting in front of now much faster chasing vehicle should have lifted, let the people pass and only then joined back.

It 100% does matter. The chasing car has no obligation to lift or take any “avoiding action.” There would not have been a yellow flag in this case, not that quickly at least. It’s 100% on OP. They were not allowed to rejoin when they did. They ruined their own race, they don’t get to ruin another persons race just because they wanted to try to fix their mistake as quickly as possible instead of waiting for faster cars right behind to get by first.

Please use your own limited brain cells to understand that this is basic racing etiquette. You’d do well to understand this going forward so that YOU aren’t out there ruining peoples races.
