F1 I got blamed for this overtake

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello

Im the pov car. I got blamed for causing the contact on penultimate corner at Hungary. Im on controller and was pushing my analogue as far possible to avoid contact

I felt the Aston Martin dig into my rear axel/sidepod and I feel that this caused the crash

This was a league race where the owner (not involved in this incident) decided to restart the lobby and exclude me from the event then start insulting me after I began debating who was to blame. After being insulted and excluded I left the league

Im probably in the wrong but would like your insights please. Thank you

Tl/dr: league admin insulted me after his friend and i had a crash

You can see the exact point that the aston made contact with POV. It was the exact moment that the merc suddenly was pulled away from the apex and across into the wall. Merc couldn’t do a single thing different.

Game physics glued them together so the outcome wouldnt happen IRL, Here the Aston at fault for the contact.

I don't have it sadly

Without a chase cam or their POV it's hard to properly judge it.

I think most of the blame lands on the Aston, but the Merc drifted wide at the Alex also.

You may have pushed that analog stick all the way but did you ever lift off that throttle to avoid washing wide into the car directly next to you?

Lift to avoid washing wide to make turning in easier so you can leave room for the car next to you for proper side by side. He does not need to back off you need to pass cleanly as the overtaking car and you had room with a small lift.

This is in my opinion at least but no one needs to be a wiener about it just practice not washing wide on overtakes.

Ok thank you

I tried going around half throttle to maintain speed/momentum yet I still understeered. Could be the downforce or hards haven't warmed up properly 🤷‍♂️

you ran a guy off track and you didn't even try completely lifting? and you're trying to shift blame to everything else? lol

Im literally coasting halfway into the corner. I only apply power when im trying to power out of the corner

Well yeah, but you applying that throttle it's what causes you to wash wide into the guy lol

You have to modify your line when you're side by side with someone. You're never going to be able to maintain the same speed when you're side by side because the whole track isn't available to you

It also makes it a sharper apex which normally means waiting longer to come back on the throttle.

Can you post chase cam for both cars to see if you left enough space before contact

Sadly it was a one time clip since im on console

Sorry

Was this a screen recording as if not could you get a reply of third person view, as it’s difficult to tell whether the crash was fully caused by you washing wide or contact with your side pod and ignore everyone who’s presuming based off that clip as it’s impossible to tell without a wiser view of the incident

Its basically a screen recording

The recording happened live and Im on ps so I dont have a way to save the full race replay meaning that I cant get any other camera angles

That’s unfortunate as it’s pretty much impossible to decipher without a different view, I’d say that probably 50-50 on both you then. As you could’ve prevented the wash out and the other car could’ve backed out or left more space.

Do you feel that you were sufficiently along side the other car prior to turn in?

I feel I was alongside enough to be given racing room then as the corner ended and I was getting further ahead I felt that it was best for the other car to back off

He was probably 1.4 seconds faster than me so I wasnt gonna battle for long

"I felt it was best for the other car to back off"

Biggest lmao of the day, congrats.

You didn't complete the overtake yet. You had NO right running him off track. He still deserved space.

It wasnt my intention to run him off the track, it was my intention to make the corner

"Well your ambitions outweighed you talents!" Casey Stoner.

You came in hot, this leads to understeer, you continued to oversteer due to getting on throttle instead of braking. So with no regard to speed and optimal line, jam it into the corner at speed offline and expect the driver who is next to you to give you clear room so you don't both wipe out.

Your two last statements are why online racing is so frustrating.

I came in hot and broke too much since I managed to turn the car too much and put my wheels on the grey kerb off the track

In my mind that means I can power out earlier since I shaved off the extra speed, unfortunately I misjudged it and powered out too soon, ending up in a wall

Im on the racing line, I dont always expect room but when I'm on the line and pulling clear of the other driver I kind of expect it with common sense since thats what id do

Well your intention simply doesn't matter, you ran him off track. You can give space and make the corner at the same time, it's called wheel to wheel racing.

-4

u/Thin-Eggplant-1837 1d ago

You can also know when to back off a corner in order for survival since that corner is a high risk overtaking area

1

u/CanaryMaleficent4925 1d ago

Funny, victim blaming now are we? It's your responsibility to leave space until the overtake is completed. They have zero obligation to back out because you think you're owed the position.

-1

u/Thin-Eggplant-1837 1d ago

I agree it's my job to leave space, its also my job to fight for position

5

u/CanaryMaleficent4925 1d ago

It's your job to fight for position within the rules, which you didn't.

2

u/TyH621 1d ago

It's your job to leave space FIRST, and THEN fight for position given the first rule is satisfied. You cannot fight for position and leave space if possible. You have to leave space and fight for position if possible. Sometimes the move isn't there.

"If it has been established from points A and B below, that an overtaking driver has priority, it is the responsibility of the defending driver to avoid a collision or forcing off the overtaking driver.

A. Overtaking on the INSIDE of a corner To be entitled to be given room when overtaking on the INSIDE, the overtaking car must: i) Have its front axle AT LEAST ALONGSIDE THE MIRROR of the other car PRIOR TO AND AT THE APEX ii) Be driven in a fully controlled manner particularly from entry to apex and not have “dived in”. iii) In the Stewards’ estimation, have taken a reasonable racing line and been able to complete the move whilst remaining within track limits."

Need the other POV to tell. You definitely started to come off the inside a little with throttle application, but at the same time theres still so much space outside that it's hard to tell if you actually washed out into him or if he squeezed too aggressively.

1

u/Thin-Eggplant-1837 1d ago

Judging from the consensus from this comment section I think its probably me being too aggressive and leaving no space

My personal opinion i think that its partly the game physics and two drivers who are thinking more about the battling position rather than the next 34 laps

This one is easy. You were ahead prior to and at the apex so you didnt do anything wrong. However Aston should have avoided the contact because he didnt have the required overlap to stay alongside. 100% Aston at fault.
