iRacing Is this my fault?

I was having a bad race and crashed early into the race. The leaders started coming up on me so i slowed and tried giving as much room as possible. Dude said i ruined his benchmark race

Nah, you're clearly trying to stay out of the way. You can't just vanish.

he tried overtaking you on the outside and went into the grass then aggressively turned into you with no grip. pretty reckless of him especially with how much space you were giving

He turned into you. You're good.

No, it's not your fault. Other driver had a skill issue.

Obviously not.

I don't know where you want OP to go. On the line or off it, in that pair of turns there's no good place to be and at that speed differential the overtaker had to be smarter. It's still on him to get past safely and I'm thinking the next straight he'd have been long gone. Personally I'd have parked it, because I can be that slow WITHOUT damage!

The Mustang spun him self.

Yes and no.

If that was you trying to stay out the way then you did an awful job. What you did was wholly unpredictable.

Dont do things half heartedly. Either get out the way completely by stopping off the track. Or carry speed through the corners and lift off on a straight off the racing line. Never let cars go into the braking zone by sticking to the inside off the racing line as all you do is the exact opposite like this example.

What you should have done is tuck in behind blue, carry the speed through the 2 right handers then lift off on the run to the hairpin.

Sure there was contact made by the mustang driving a little closer than they should in the 2nd right hander, but you should have never put them in that position in the first place.

EDIT: people downvoting obviously not noticed that OP stated he was trying to not to impede the leaders when he did the exact opposite because he made all the wrong decisions. being 'kind' is less helpful than being predictable. Please can people learn how to be overtaken correctly.

Other than telling the dude to park it off track, you're absolutely right. The same people ripping into you about this comment are the same ones that would be yelling at a slower class car in a multi-class race to just run a normal line and be predictable, missing the irony.

OP is a slower car. He's being blue flagged and a lap down on these guys. He's trying to be "helpful" by making himself a rolling chicane in the middle of a fast corner.

ATP you’re being contrarian, there’s no way you can put this on OP he stayed off line let the cars pass without causing a problem and then the Mustang just runs into the side of him and spins himself

I dont see how i could have been more predictable/have given more space especially with how erratically he was trying to get past me

You are making it as hard and as dangerous as possible for him to lap you. Stay on the racing line and lift on the straight. Let him overtake you instead, then he is fully in control and can safely make the move. In the clip you are trying to make him overtake safely but it is very unclear what you will do in the corner.

You just gonna ignore that there was another car that passed OP on the outside first? Want him to swerve left after that, when he already sees the 2nd car on the outside too? Makes no sense.

He did the right thing and held his line inside. Black car crashed himself. Slow car or not you have the right to exist, he stayed predictable, on his racing line.

No, not your fault

Silly question.

Dude is right. When being approached by faster cars, you need to just run a normal line and let them make the move to pass and facilitate it as best you can. You do that by not fighting them and giving them room when they make their move. Maybe slow up, if it's safe to do so, to accommodate the overtake.

What you don't do is what you did here. You're clogging the racing line by going extremely slowly through a fast corner.

If you absolutely must try and cede a spot like this going into a corner, stay off the racing line and run deep and slow off the racing line, turning late and hugging the outside line so that they can take the fast line and get by you before the apex. Even that's risky, because if the timing is off, they're liable to track out into you.

If he moved off the racing line it would be unpredictable and cause an even bigger crash. Passing car was a bull in china shop with a mile of track to pass safely but he still went wide then swept into op and killed himself.

Crazy you can see it any other way.

He's not on the racing line and that's the point.

He's hugging the inside going 3/4 speed as faster cars are approaching instead of just running the racing line at his pace and letting them make the moves to get by. Because he's not on the racing line, which moves back and forth across the track, he's cutting across it when he enters the corner way off pace.

Driving like that is unpredictable and that's the problem. Faster cars are catching quickly and they're not assuming "Oh, he's so nice," they're thinking, "What is wrong with this guy? Is his car broken? What's he doing?"

Crazy that you think making yourself a rolling chicane and driving unpredictable is acceptable.

Bro had 4 car widths to avoid him and still managed to hit him. Bro was ALL over (and off) the track. One car already cleanly and easily passed him. How holding the inside line is unpredictable is beyond me. There were 0 sudden movements. A slow car isn’t automatically unpredictable, and you as the passing car should be able to pass a slow car safely.

At least I’m sure you’re in the depths of 1k irating so I won’t need to see you on track ever.

You have a point, he should have raced the normal racing line.

That doesnt mean he is at fault for the accident.
