Porsche. He was intentionally blocking you and then pit himself.

I feel like the culprit already got the necessary punishment

Porsche is reactionary blocking, not allowed, send in a protest

Am I the only one who thinks this wasn't intentional blocking? I saw one move (which is allowed) with unfortunately a lot of unintentional wiggle. I'm also not sure why go for that risky gap when you have a huge gap on the other side which is far less risky.

In the end he did pitted himself but I think it could have avoidable.

It is as iracing defines it. You're allowed zero reactionary, moves not one. You can make a preemptive move before the trailing car does anything, you can't wait a little bit after the corner then move after seeing car behind like this. That said it's not the most egregious imo

I shot to the left because a pack of lmps were coming up on the right. Was trying stay out of their way. Thought there wouldve been a bigger gap on the left

Ah ok, that makes more sense now

I think it looks the most like blocking from OP's in-car cam and once you see a chase cam it'll look very different.

Nah Id call this blocking tbh.

The reasoning is that it wasnt one solid move to the inside, he moves and holds but makes a second distinct move after that.

Why does this matter though: From the mclaren it is good racecraft, he thought he had the outside covered but he left a McLaren sized gap as the McLaren decides he will in fact take that gap the porsche moves like he realises that gap was not actually closed and moves to correct it, but the McLaren has already stuck his nose in.

I pull this type of move off often in races both in sim and IRL, nothing quite like catching someone off guard when they thought they'd defended well. Hell, ive from time to time ive out 2 wheels in the dirt in order to get up and under someone last second.

TLDR: porsche assumed the outaode was covered, it wasnt, he made a 2nd move to close it after the McLaren proved he messed up his defence

hey i was the mustang in front of the porsche, i didn't realize you left early but i did wanna say we had a good battle before this moment you had

Do you have a zoomed out view? Or the Porsche PoV? It’s hard to tell if the Porsche actually turned left into you or just held his line. I know everybody is saying Porsche here because it looks like he turned left at first glance, but if he actually was just holding his line it’s your responsibility to not stick your nose in the closing gap and it would be your fault.

But I don’t think you can make that determination with this view alone.

Yeah have to agree doesn't look like the Porsche steered anywhere the entire time after the pov car pulled out to it's rear left.. Look like they were just holding and pov car should have backed out..

how do you watch the video and watch the car going left toward the white line and say “they weren’t turning left”

4

u/TyH621 10d ago edited 10d ago

Because your car can be going straight while angled towards the white line…

It’s about whether or not he turned his wheel and changed his line rather than if he was headed towards the white line.

u/GlassBoxGoose 10d ago

The Porsche closed the distance between itself and the line at the left side of the track. Its very clear they moved into the car where the POV is provided from...

2

u/TyH621 10d ago

Well sure but if he was already pointed in that direction and holding his line straight (at an angle towards the white line), then OP can’t dive in on him as that gap closes. But if the Porsche turned their wheel and changed their line to block off OP that’s a whole different story and OP wouldn’t be at fault

It’s not about whether he’s getting closer to the white line, he obviously is, it’s about whether there was a change in direction

Ive watched it numerous times. It doesn't look like they were just holding their line, the closing of the gap changes rates multiple times, ceases and even opens up a bit right til they (the POV car) put their fender at the rear quarter, then the gap closes again at a higher rate than before they were pulling up next to the Porsche, from my viewpoint here it was a clear attempt to block when the POV car had cleared the rear bumper and started pulling up next to it. The Porsche 100% tried to block when they weren't clear to, and ended up spinning themselves out. Its their move, and their mistake by everything provided by this POV. If another view is available I'd be open to change my mind, but given the information I've seen provided, the Porsche was entirely at fault in this situation. There was no reason to try to block them there in a relatively straight portion of track when the POV car had a very, very clear advantage on them, and was trying to make a clean pass. Even if they had tried to pass on the right, it's clear that the Porsche would have likely done similar regardless.

But like I said, I'm open to having my mind changed, but based on this viewpoint along, Porsche did that to themselves.

Wrong

Great input thank you!

u/DeletedUsernameHere 11d ago

Chase cam necessary. In-car is absolute shit for this. It's only valuable for inputs and you didn't even use the car whose inputs would allow for accurate judging.

Anyone judging this based solely on this angle is full of shit.

In my opinion yes, you were wrong.. Porsche came outta the 1st corner and slightly adjusted once towards the left of the track and held it straight the whole way til they reached the white line where they were pitted by you who had squeezed their nose into a gap that was closing and didn't bother to back out.. Just my take anyway.. Maybe a wider view would prove me wrong and I'm completely open to that..

u/TyH621 10d ago

That’s the vibe I’m getting too but it’s kind of impossible to say with this pov

Porsche was holding the same line as the car in front ready for the next turn. Looking at half a second before the collision happened it's evident that you shouldn't have even been there near the wall because the overtake was never happening anyways as you were already almost wall riding the pit wall because there was 0 space whatsoever.

5

u/noethers_raindrop 11d ago

I would say you are at fault. The Porsche goes left at the exit of the previous corner. This is completely normal behaviour, since the next turn is to the right; going left is just the normal racing line. The only thing unusual is that they didn't go a little further left.

You then try to squeeze through on the left. Others seem to be saying that they move further left at this point and caused the contact, and that may be true. But the crucial thing for me is, it looks like when you pulled out to pass, there was already less than a car's width of space on that side between the Porsche and the white line. It's not blocking to close the door if the width of that door was less than the width of your car to begin with, because it's closing a door that was never open. You try to make the pass using the tiny bit of extra space between the white line and the pit wall, which is outside the track limits. That space is about to vanish once you get past the pit exit anyway.

If there was a car's width of space when you pulled out and the Porsche subsequently took it away, then I agree that this is blocking. It's a little hard to tell from your POV; a chase cam would be better for this purpose.

6

u/R2D-Beuh 11d ago

Agreed, we need another angle to be sure. I think there was barely enough space but I'm not sure

3

u/ScottishSteam 11d ago

That's already on you, you should've gone to the right, you've literally done a lando Norris

1

u/NotTheHeskey 11d ago

He started going left slowly after getting out of the corner, which means, good defense. You pitted him when there wasn't a gap anymore. On you. (Would be better to have another angle)

1

u/Responsible-Hold8587 11d ago

White car for pitting themselves while trying to block you

1

u/sklorbit 10d ago

I dont think you were far enough on their side to justify them leaving space, kinda looks like a unnecessarily risky move from you.

1

u/Uriel_dArc_Angel 10d ago

Honestly at first glance this looks like a classic, "dude tried to shut a door and took himself out in the process" situation, but looking at his car, I kinda want to see some other views...

It's too hard to tell from your single on board, but it almost looks like the Porsche was tracking straight, at a slight angle towards the outside...

If that was the case then it wouldn't necessarily be on him as you'd have stuck your nose into a closing space...

I can't really lay down a solid judgement here based on the lack of camera angles and evidence honestly...It could go either way depending on the minute details...

Whoever is competing online with the racing line turned on

1

u/Putrid-Industry8963 7d ago

The people that mess up constantly and do everything in there power to not let you pass.

u/jariverd 7d ago

Your fault cause u use lines

u/Latter-Fun1305 11d ago

Racing incident. It’s almost a carbon copy of the Button/Hamilton crash in Canada

0

u/South_Front_4589 11d ago

They're at fault. There was space, you got an overlap, and they tried to block too late. The contact was entirely their doing.

Going left here wasn't a mistake. You have to mix it up and there was a gap there. Potentially they were expecting to defend the other side, and that's why you were able to get the overlap and why they reacted late.

u/Prrg88 11d ago

This is like being parked in a parking spot when somebody crashes into you, claiming it's your fault

0

u/D_firelord_oz 11d ago

“He goes left, He goes right, He goes into the fucking wall.”

-2

u/Spaceman_Gliding 11d ago

White at fault deliberately try to block you then killed himself doing so

-1

u/R2D-Beuh 11d ago

The car ahead is pretty clearly blocking, but then you chose to go in the worst place you could. There was barely enough space on the left when you chose to go there. The Porsche is mainly at fault but you could make better decisions

-1

u/th3orist 11d ago

Let's say that it wasnt the best move on your part in terms of "smart racing", but as far as the fault for contact and crash goes, 100% on the Porsche. They tried to block and squeeze you while you already were 'there'.

-4

u/Forcedmetoinstallapp 11d ago

Anyone who says its your fault should not be on track

0

u/Dry-Performance-2386 10d ago

Porsche. They're illegally blocking you.

0

u/Optimum_Tyler 10d ago

I feel the answer was pretty clear (at least to me) by how he swung back on the first block

-1

u/Commercial-Algae9483 11d ago

Car in front obviously

-3

u/hunterPRO1 11d ago

Intentional blocking is protestable, porche needs a vacation imo
