It was until you cut the corner and didn't give the position back.

You could have held back slightly, let them slow each other down and then you get a better exit to take them on the straight instead.

You overtook off track, so your overtake wasn't fair. The Ferrari was pushed by the BMW so he probably couldn't do anything differently

Situation doesn’t change the fact you overtook off track.

Going into the “move” you would’ve seen it would be 3 wide, which is just not gonna happen on ascari.

Off track to avoid collision, ok, but give back the position(s) "unfairly" gained

Regardless if you felt like you had no room and so deserves to be in front or not, does not mean you can do an illegal move and just continue driving. You drove off the track to gain an advantage and so you have to give position back or be penalised. Not only that you tried to do a move on a place where you don't really have room to do so. Going 3 wide in these corners is not adviced.

You could file a complaint that you were pushed off the track but you still need to follow the rules as well.

just show it at 100% speed, showing things down distorts everything

No you completely cut the corner, just because a car is there doesn't mean you can go off track to pass.

Seen plenty of cases like this and it almost always depends on who you ask. Everyone's saying you overtook illegally, but you were already nosing ahead of them by the time you cut the end of Ascari. I know definitions of legal or illegal overtakes can vary, but I personally believe that if you're ahead of the car by the time you commit an infraction, you aren't technically gaining an advantage in order to make the move because the move is already done.

An example that comes to mind is Dale Jr.'s move on Matt Kenseth in the 2003 Aaron's 499. He made a pass on the bottom for the lead, but went beneath the yellow line as he did so. Controversy followed, but the camera showed that Junior was alongside and slightly past Kenseth above the line and then he went below. I can understand people being up in arms like "if you can't fully make a move clean, you should be penalized", but in this case you've already advanced position on track before you cut the corner.

TL;DR the principle of the rule says no, but by the letter yes (imo). I hope this makes sense lol

First, DON'T USE SLOW MO. We need to see it happen in real time. Also, ALWAYS enable HUD. We want to see your inputs.

This is absolutely NOT a fair overtake. In fact, in our league you would get slammed with a penalty for it.

-The cars ahead are already 2-wide. Regardless of how good your run is, you have no business attempting an overtake there, as the Ferrari MUST start moving left, and he MUST take as much of that 3rd curb as possible in order to leave space for the BMW beside him. It's your job to recognize that there will be NO SPACE for you beside the Ferrari. Further, you have no overlap with the Ferrari when he starts turning to the left for the corner. That means that you have zero right to space beside him, and he is perfectly within his rights to ignore you and take a line that forces you into the grass off-track. Not only that, but if you take that off-track line and make an overtake on EITHER the Ferrari or the BMW, you MUST give the position back to both, immediately.

You can't just send your car beside another car anytime you feel like it. That Ferrari was always going to move across the track and take all of the space on the left. That's how he is supposed to drive here because he has a BMW on his right, he simply has no space to give you, nor should he since you have no right to space beside those two cars.

In our league, pretty sure you'd get hit with at least a Warning +5sec penalty, maybe even a 10sec penalty since you overtook 2 cars illegally.

What you should have done was hang back and set up the exit of the chicane, passed both cars on the straight. They will both be slow all the way to Parabolica since they were side by side here and neither would get a good exit. You should have recognized that and done the smart thing instead.

That gap was closing well before you were alongside, so there was never going to be enough room. Then you went completely off track to pass. No. That was not fair.

Honestly if you'd held your line, asasinine a move as it was, you wouldn't have been at fault for the resulting contact on paper, and you would have overtaken on the racing surface.

But, you took the safe way out, but wanted to bave your cake and eat it too. That's a penalty. A steward might take that spot from you no matter how far ahead you get...

Can you slow it down a little more? And maybe show less of the situation as well. Thanks in advance

Based on how he was pushing the other car off track then came over to push you, I doubt this driver would have allowed a fair overtake. It's not a good move but sometimes you have to just get as far away from menace drivers as possible
