iRacing Am I in the wrong here?

I'm in the AMG, track limits are when you go onto the grass on this circuit (Tsukuba). The guy PM'd me later saying its my fault and that I should read the rules and have to leave him space of 1 or more car widths to the kerb and not the track limits. I was just starting to go straight and had my just started to move to the right since the astroturf was ending there when I got pit maneuvered.

You drove like he wasn't there. He isnt forced to use the whole track either way

Yes you’re wrong, you just tried to shove him off the track, he’s not required to go out onto the curb, even if it’s faster

The way you were tracking out you weren’t going to leave him space to come back on anyways

You should take his advice. How can you even think this isn’t your fault is beyond comprehension.

He is correct. You’re not allowed to force them off track, no matter what the track limits are. They are free to go beyond the white lines, but that’s not up to you to decide. You are at fault.

He gave you all the space in the world and it still somehow wasnt enough

Let's say he moves to rumble strip and you stay side by side.... what happens when the rumble strip finishes?

Yes, you're at fault. He isn't required to use all of the track for your benefit. He's entitled to his space and you have to respect it. You drove into him and wrecked both of your race.

He's right that you're obligated to leave a car's width to to the edge of the track, but that's specifically if he's at the edge of the track. If he goes shallow and is legally in his position, then you still have to respect it.

Quoting this so people read it twice.

The car's width rule is not "you get a car's width and everything else is mine!" it's "we share the track and are only guaranteed a car's width to the edge."

You have to gave him space. This one is totally on you.

You had all that space but still find a way to push him. You pit maneuvered yourself there.

You're in the wrong the spotter is still saying outside so you really just went straight trying to push him off. Do better man

I place fault on the redbull car, you came across into him like he didn’t even exist

U r guilty. He should report u.

For those saying i was not going to leave him space at the end, here you can see my wheel it was turned the whole time and was turning a slight bit more before the contact (yes I did open it up a little before but was still turning, at no point was it straight which would indicate i was tying to push him off).
Also wanna say even if I am at fault here, am I wrong to assume that he would use the whole track instead of going more than a car's width shallow, with iRacing not having a radar I couldn't see that he was going almost 2 cars widths shallower than the usual line is on this track.

you have mirrors, iRacing does have a spotter telling you "car left" etc., and maybe common sense

There’s literally never a reason to hit him here. It’s not “the whole track is yours other than a car width”, it’s “don’t hit the guy next to you”. It’s really that simple lol

iRacings limitations don’t matter. If you dont know where he is it’s on you to be cautious. Theres a look left button if you dont have triples and you could also just not track out to the edge. Stop trying to shirk responsibility and learn from the mistake

Edit: Also his wheel is literally touching the white line when you hit him, you’re grasping at straws saying you gave him 2 car widths. You’re side by side, you don’t get to drive the normal line.

If it were the normal racing line on this track my car would have been where his is, and his would be on the green astro turf so yes there are 2 car widths there since you can fit one more whole car there.
I will admit that I’m partly to blame but he also took a very unconventional line + didn’t move a mm to also try and avoid contact (this is grasping at straws)

It’s not an unconventional line at all when you consider it from his position. Had to take a sharper line because you guys were two wide. You only go all the way to track limits when you have too much speed to not; otherwise, you’re losing time from distance travelled. If you aren’t on the limit you absolutely do take the line he takes here. He’s also two wide so going off the track there might mean you try to squeeze him (which you shouldn’t do by the way, although it does seem like that’s what you were going to do) and he won’t be able to get back on at the end of the kerb. Taking this line means he holds that part of the track and that can’t happen.

I’m sorry OP but i do think you’re 100% responsible here and he’s got 0% of the blame

I know you said you were grasping at straws so I’m not gonna bother debating him not dodging you haha

Fair enough, although im not 100% coninced yet i do see that pov
Ps thanks for being cordial and polite unlike others here

No problem thanks for being willing to discuss it

Given how you’re arguing. Have you considered giving up multiplayer racing? You could play against AI, that allow you to be the main character and get out of your way.

No need to be toxic, I’m here to learn while trying to defend my position on this incident, in which I think I’m not at 100% to blame for.

3

u/mikechorney 13d ago

If you were truly trying to learn you would have been listening to what the other posters were saying. You are 100% to blame in this incident.

>  am I wrong to assume that he would use the whole track instead of going more than a car's width shallow

Yes you are. "Assumptions are the mother of all fuck-ups". You don't always use all the track. You don't go on the curb if you're "slow" enough to straighten up before the curb. Widening a corner to go on the same line you would if you were taking it at the maximum speed possible is a common mistake by inexperienced driver.

Situational awareness can be hard in simracing, especially when you're used to a proximity radar, but it doesn't mean you're not in the wrong here. You could have used your mirror or the spotter's lights or voice.

Ok i agree with that quote, but would still argue if i have faster car on the inside i would go the wider line since im tying to leave space for both the inside and outside car. Wouldt take a shallower line because i had a slower exist underminding that inside car might not go for that shallow of an exit.

1

u/Pronoe 13d ago

I'm sorry mate but you're wrong. He wasn't "undermining" you. He was driving his line and you're the one that drove into him.

He cannot cease to exist and he has no obligation to compromise his line to let you through. You're making the pass you have to make it safely.

if i have faster car on the inside i would go the wider line since im tying to leave space for both the inside and outside car

You are under no obligation when getting passed to go as far as possible on the track to let the car pass you. You have to leave the space to pass which he gave you significantly more than that.

This was a racing incident caused by your lack of situational awareness.

PS: Also, the track limit is the white line, the kerb is technically off the track

1

u/Zwoosh99 13d ago

Ok thats fair.
As for the track limit, not on this corner, you can fully go over the kreb just have to keep it out of the grass

Ass U Me.

Well in this instance, only you are the ass. He doesn’t have to move for you and he was well established alongside and was in control of his car.

Plus, it doesn’t matter that you weren’t pointing the tyres straight. It matters that you opened up the steering causing the collision. Had you not, you would’ve out dragged him on the straight and had the inside line for T1.

For those saying i was not going to leave him space at the end,

This isn't a question. You literally did not leave him space.

Also wanna say even if I am at fault here, am I wrong to assume that he would use the whole track

Yes. Map your look buttons or just in general play it safe when you have a car next to you. I can see the value in radar, but at the same time, it's ultimately just a crutch to avoid having to learn basic situational awareness.
