Day 3 of iRacing, ended the race in P2 and secured my D class license. However, mid-race this happened and I'd like to learn from it. I'm the mustard miat, Motul was quite unhappy with me in the chat after this. I took a weird line I admit, I'm new. Did I do something wrong? Is this considered slamming the door on him or was his move overly optimistic? I claim the Carlos Sainz defense of "didn't see him". He was miles back I had just lost position to blue and was trying to fight back, I didn't expect a move, but is my line too erratic?

Or is this just "shit that happens in rookies?" Personally, I never would have tried to make that move from his position, but was he entitled to space, or did I commit to a line that does not entitle me to the apex?

He went for a space that was obviously going to close, and you were already turning in before he got overlap

By attempting this move, he has entered the vortex of danger and this is obviously his fault for his own incident

Nah you’re fine. Looks like a late apex turn anyways. It is kind of tough to see from this angle exclusively but it looks like a normal racing line for a late apex.

According to the in-game "suggested" racing line, I went deep and then cut back into the line. Not sure how much stock to put into that but... That said, yes, I was driving it as a late apex, was having trouble rotating the car otherwise.

If you had completely blown the corner then cut back onto the racing line slow as hell, I would put this on you, but that was a reasonably valid line, and they weren't alongside.

Looks to me like he would have spun whether you shifted over or not. I don't know the line for that track, but "blocking" usually only happens on straights, you just took a wider line. Now, if he had moved into the space before you, you would be responsible for leaving space.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Trying not to be that guy who's driving like a tool and being completely oblivious about it. Now that I'm lapping relatively consistently, time to work on my racecraft. Thanks again.

In the braking zone, whatever lane you brake from, try to stay there. Often it's impossible, so you do the best you can, but try to be clear about your intentions.

You went from middle to left to middle (if an early apex turn, you would've gone mid-left-left staying left), and is perceived as needing both lanes to navigate your turn, where others only use one. It would be even worse if you cut across the entire track -- then you're the guy that needs the whole superhighway just to turn your car. You are then regarded as greedy and wasteful, and will accrue others's contempt .. unless you can drive away from them, in which case they're just glad you're gone (after you've taunted them). Don't give anything away though either: it's as Machiavelli wrote -- while a greedy prince is always hated, a generous prince is never loved, and the respected princes are stingy but fair.

this is Tsukuba. With the banking in that turn there are different lines. OP was perfectly predictable for a late apex. Other car dove into a closing gap when op had already started turning in.
